what gearing does everyone run? are most people on standard sprockets?

just wondering if there is a known improvement, ie on a bandit 1200 they go so much better with a 14 tooth on the front instead of 15 and everyone does that

I Run 1 tooth smaller on the front sprocket for a bit more oomph - however I am running a 180 tyre which is slightly larger so gearing is slightly lower than standard - which is good. I don't often want to 140mph. there is a really great website called http://www.gearingcommander.com/ which lets you play all sorts of tunes with different combinations

I like that too, no need for 140 mph, rarely go above 80 on the roads these days its just not worth the risk. I would rather sacrifice top end for a little bit more acceleration

17/40 on the TRX motor, 16/40 on the TDM900 going in...

I run 17 42 - perfect compromise IMHO

one less at the front (16) & standard back (39) with sprockets from B and C Express

much the same as 17 42 but fits the standard 110 link chain ok. Sometimes with 42 rear you need another link.

but smaller 16 front theoretically means increased chain wear.

Ditto with trixy . . . 16-39.
I ran 15-39 for years and enjoyed the rush in the tight bits , but it didn't have long enough legs for the big rides.

Bought a chain and sprocket kit for TDM 900 (I wanted the rear 42 tooth sprocket - fits the TRX and chain is same same but 118 links - just cut to fit). Opted to go a bit crazy and went with 16T front so 16/42. Its a bit lively but great for legal speeds. Its perfect in town also compared to standard gearing. Main reason for this was upcoming track day. In Sweden our race tracks are quite curvy (?) and not so long straights - so according to my plan this will be great for accel and enough top speed.

How the heck are you able to fit a 110 link chain with 17/42? I couldnt get under 114 links. With a lot of effort I could probably have made 113 but no less.

he meant 16/39 with 110 links gives similar gearing as 17/42, not 17/42 with 110 links
