this goes out to anyone with an imported trx!

i had to take my speedo apart to fix a blown bulb and also to scrap some of the stuff away from the back of the speedo, so that i could se what speed i was doing at night.
now as a result there is what looks like a small pickup circuit on the side of the speedo that has a magnetic disk that rotates when the speed goes up or down.
now the problem i have is that when i put the speedo back together i am now running 10mph faster than the speedo is reading.
now this is not realy a problem but i would like to fix it.
could it be the little pickup thingy on the side of the speedo not having the magnetic disk in the right place when i put it back together????
now anyone that has an inport should know what i am on about, and can you help?
oops forgot to say i do have a reducer inline on the speedo cable to convert it from kph to mph(i have cheked this and it was fine b4 i took the speedo apart).
any ideas plz????

RCT, Hi,

You dont say where your bike comes from, I'm assuming that it has a black engine and comes from Japan.

If this is the case then the pick up you refer to is a sensor for the restricter built into the speedo, it works by monitoring your speed and when you reach the designated cut off it cuts the sparks to (i think) the right hand plug (as you sit on it) this is calibrated in KPH but in english its about 112 MPH.

provided you havnt moved it in relation to the needle magnet (moving Iron) it shouldnt be a problem.

You have a convertor fitted to read KPH as MPH and that in its self shouldnt be the problem. I can only assume that you havnt located every thing as was.

I know i havnt helped much but, was just tryiny to explaine how it works. On my bike the speedo reads KPH as MPH but i havnt got a converter as far as i can see, so some one has had a "fiddle" with the speedo.

I cant think why it is reading 10 MPH different unless the sensor is either closer or further away from its pick-up (gearing)

Hope i've been some help

Thanks Gary
