The story so far

well hello,

Thought i'd throw something up about my trx, i've said nothing on here besides my intro.
some of this may be a help for people experiencing technical difficulties too so i'l lash in a few keywords here for a search! Slow flat spot open throttle dies stutter carbs emulsion tubes injectors - (i know its mostly all been covered before but i didnt see anything about the injectors)

Got my trx and most of a bike for spares for 1500 euro a while back, verrrry tidy, newly powdercoated frame, everything polished, wouldnt turn out to be much a bargain mechanically unfortunatly. i was drawn to it because it was the biggest twin i could insure (22 yo) and after a stint on a horrible zxr400 the thoughts of revving anything filled me with nothing but a sort of weary misery!
I thouuuuught it was ok, put a set of bluespots on on day one and god, i dont think i'l ever be able to go back to the likes of the brakes on my old 400's. these are fantastic! goodridge hoses to compliment.
I couldnt help but think it was a bit slow for a bike with such a massive engine though, having stepped off the nsr125 i was on for 2 weeks while i sorted out the cash to get the trex naturally i didnt realise what i was truly missing.
The main gripe with the bike was that if i opened the throttle in any way at all it would bog down and die until i rolled back off and reapplied gradually. made taking off from the lights very difficult and slow going.
Im generally a decent home mechanic, like anyone who buys on a budget you have to be i suppose! So i wanted to sort the bike, Sifting through the info on this site here first i threw a set of emulsion tubes at it, 108 euro annnnnd...no difference. next the k&n filter and dynojets annnd..probably a bit slower. next, i decided it was time for the pro's so off down to the local shop to get the carbs balanced. these lads really know their stuff and balanced the carbs (way off, and resulted in a marginal improvement) but said there are small injectors in the carbs that spray petrol into the mixture making the bike shoot off like a missile, one of mine was barely working and the other wasnt interested at all, on top of that the slides were opening rather slowly ( ? ). Something to consider for those out there who didnt have their woes cured with new emulsion tubes.
I decided the previous owner who had assure me everything was perfect was a compete dickhead, and as he mentioned he had checked the shims i asked the shop to do them too.
Somehow he had managed to get ALL the clearences wrong, and to top it off got the timing slightly out as well. i wish people who didnt know anything wouldnt go near things!!
The lads in the shop were laughing at how horribly slow and generally crap it was when it came into the place, and when it was done they took it out for a 'spin' and raved about what a brilliant bike it was to me when i arrived. the spin turned out to be a full tank of fuel nearly. good on the trx's! not bad to keep a jaded old mechanic in the saddle that long methinks!
And now: what a fantastic bike! nice amount of power, dont see any more 125's beating me from the lights! (blush). on the spin home in the wet i thought the tyre pressures must have been way out because it was handling so oddly, but no, it just has throttle response and engine braking etc back! note to self: careful with the right wrist in the wet now..
the future is some improvement on the CRAP lights, hid kit do we think? i have the fzr unit on another of my bikes, an mz skorpion, and i can tell anyone who is considering it not to waste their money. they're shite. and getting bulbs is an expensive pain.
Also i must peg back my suspension before it breaks my spine, would someone like to link me to the standard settings from the factory? i saw it in a thread here but cannot find it for the life of me now :\
Must also do something to the plank of a saddle.
On my last venture out of the cave i learned i must take offfff the bellypan too!! while it looks good and all it decks out - then pushes the front. focusing to say the least. i was wondering where the scratches on the side of it were coming from!
Whenever i win the lotto the spare frame and bits will have an engine, usd front end and some back end attached. although it would probably be cheaper to find just about any other engine to occupy the frame as a trex unit wont be found over here (ireland). Thoughts anyone  ?

Novel over!

Geoff

i remember you posting on biker :)

i was about to sabotage your deal but i figured it wasn't fair to do that to you!!

there a hard beast to get in ireland alright. i was nearly on one last year , went as far as giving a man a deposit but something smelt wrong so i left it go.

did you see your man in cavan on DD selling the 96 for 2000 "no offers". he got rid of it alright but i wonder did he get the cash with the way things are on the market at the moment.

i am being stubborn and holding out for a 96 in decent nick for classic insurance. at this rate i may just get a 97 and wait till next year.

well wear !!

nice find!!

she looks clean in fairness - but sure what one doesn't in the pictures!!

yeah the one in Gg-gg-gg Galway for 2500? had to laugh alright. don't know if she sold but it didnt last the full time on donedeal. the lad in Cavan had a sold sticker on his ad so he must have got someone.

the lad in waterford - missed it by a day - of course - the price was the difference is what the insurance would cost. was gutted when i missed that one. a lad in the house has all the paint gear.

its not worth my while getting one that that new. i can get insured for 409 of carol nash if its a 96 - 907 if its a 97 or above. classic all the way. the insurance companies make enough money out of us.

kind of annoying - full licence for years. no ncb or training and i may as well have a provisional licence.

where abouts are ya?

welcome

there's every chance that the suspension is fecked but your best bet is to wind it the settings way down and then all the way up, counting the clicks as you go. The find the middle posiiton and start from there

Sag is your friend

Yea actually ya could be right, on a rater bumpy road last night going at a fair pace (car decided to act silly buggers as i passed him) i had to pull in because of the crazy weaving to check my rear wheel hadnt come loose or something :?
Rear has pogo'd on bikes before but this didnt seem to want to stop! I know the technical reasons for this and all that. but it doesnt make me any happier lol
Out with the hammer again so

Probably worth it if it works, mine has worked out at 2417 so far. before suspension gets sorted :\
Jeaysus! then again when have the ins companies over here ever made sense. Quinn seem to be insuring anyone on what they want - if you talk to the right person at the right time - so could be worth a word if ya want a big bike.
Im in wicklow. the bumpiest feckin county around
