Well I've been looking for a good dirt road bike to do some serious miles on and this just popped up...i do need the forum to tell me to buy it, if not i procrastinate and never own one Any one have any good or bad things to say and what do you think the top $ would be? It's all and more than i been looking for

Buy it I've got an SZR with high bars on and I love it.

Kayla, I am very tempted and can just afford it, I have had a great chat to him and the work done is extensive and most is not listed on the forum topic. On another point i have just fitted the only aftermarket part to my bike and proudly so....it's a sicker

The old 4 valve SRX / XT 600 four valve motors are pretty strong (as long as it`s been looked after). Kayla`s SZR660 is the 5 valve Yamaha motor, watercooled and a little more powerful and refined than the 600 motors.
I`ve got an MuZ Skorpion which uses the XTZ660 5 valve motor, just came back from down south, two up, loaded with camping gear and happily sat at between 90 and 100 mph virtually all the way up the more northern stretches of the M6 and onto the M74, the later five valve motors are a tad un single like in that they thrive on being revved.
You`ll have possibly a 300 mile range with that Tenere and her big tank, always good for touring.

Mate if you read the full post on the "tenere" forum, your'll see that the engine has had a complete top end rebuild and rebore

Well that`ll be sound then, go for it you`ll love the way the Tenere delivers it`s power. Perfect for touring at a sensible pace and it`ll do it cheaply on fuel too, you can expect over 50 mpg.

hi rod.
i had an '84 tenere(32litre tank!) and an '87 tenere(23litre tank).
both were extremely reliable and very economical.
gold coast to jannali in sydney on the '87 with one stop for fuel, arriving there without hitting reserve yet.
my missus at the time rear-ended an alfa gtv so the bike got traded down to an xj600(pig of a bike in comparison) from beaumonts in brissie.
at least i had wheels !
