My local Yamaha dealer padgetts in dewsbury west Yorkshire sold me the above oil to use in my trx and told me its good for a wide spectrum of uses. I have now changed the oil but I'm a little worried it might be no good for the engine. Will it be ok with this oil??? The guy has owned the shop for ever and I'm sure he knows his stuff he's even got a race team. Could he have got it wrong?..

It`ll be fine Rich unless temperatures drop very low then it`ll take a wee while to get around the motor from start up.
I use 10 W 40 semi-synthetic (Halfords own brand) a slightly better compromise and seeing as I`m a Halfords trade account holder blo*dy cheap too.

In todays world of Synthetic oils, I personally think you would find it hard to buy a shitty oil from the top brand blenders like Shell ect. To me if you have the correct weight (15-40) and the rating of the oil is SE, SF or SG and of course you can go higher in the ratings to the premium levels of SJ.. Just check those and you cant go wrong.

funny thing about shell tho . . . .bikes in general seem to like to consume it at a rate higher than other oils.
seeing as our TRiXies are prone to a tipple or two, my suggestion would be run it for a couple of thou, dump it and use something like Motul 5100.

The secret I think is regular oil/filter changes between 3 to 5,000km.. I use just blended 15/40 popular label brands like stank said.. What evers on special at the time.

Ditto. I think Halfords oil is made by Comma. Once, on a trip around the Morris Oil factory in Shrewsbury, the guide turned around and said, 'There's no such thing as a bad oil anymore'

I suppose it is about time we had another oil thread.
