id say the funny thing is when i went on the website looking for a new bike as my 400 died :( , i had R6 in mind as my mum and dad both have them. but found that the R6 i had my mind set on i couldnt get due to the finance so the kind sales man told me to look through their other bikes to see if anything else took my fancie and just like that i found the trx.
i then joined this forum and within an hour i was on the phone telling them i wanted it , i spose its funny how we come across things you could call it fate 8)

Hey mate, great to see another addict! I was liking through potential bikes and had my heart set on a twin. Doing a bit of research these little devils came up and I fell in love with the trellis frame, cheap price and amount if modifications that have and can be done. I love the idea of a blank canvas with a lot of potential and I think I'm gonna hang onto this bike for a while! At least until my wallet catches up to my ideas.
Here for a good time, not a long time.

Welcome to the forum mate
Like you, I went out looking for 'something sensible' after riding strokers and in-line fours all my life. (actually I was thinking about a 600 Diversion FFS  )
Then I spotted a couple of TRX's in the background, took one for a test ride, and the rest,as they say, is history. That was 10 years ago.
BTW I'm at the opposite end of the age range to you at 61¾ so with luck you have over 40 years of TRX to look forward to ? :D
Rubber side down, Red side up is my preferred riding style.

Try just getting the wheels done black first and see if you like it - black and yellow is a good colour scheme :) Might save you some money getting a full respray.

i have been chatting with my dad and he thinks we can do the respray (not the wheels get them poweder coated) as he is an ex mechanic and knows how to spray and already has all the equiptment we need to do a profesional job.
heres a pic of how it will look when im done sorry about my bad photoshopping  please tell me you thoughts and any improvments you think i could do to make it look even better :)

Go for it! Good colour scheme. Although I do have a liking for Black and Yellow. Nice to see that you aren't turning it into one of those hideous street fighters. Keep the fairing and do a real smart paint job.
