Heres the low down. You can see that the stock 850cc piston (well, really 425cc) is the heaviest at 318g, the custom TR1X piston ive had made is some 22g lighter. Saying that, the gudgeon / wrist pin is actually heavier by 9g. Its shorter, but the TRX is tapered on the inside. I didnt weigh the "spirolock" which i should have. Its also heavier than the ring clip of a TRX, but would only be 3 or 4g at most.
I didnt have a TDM900 pin or conrod to measure here. Please note that a TRX pin is 20mm diameter, while the TDM is 22mm. So you CANT put a TDM piston straight in. You need the rod and pin to go with it. Ive not measured, but it looks like the pin offset is different too. Im sure the rod would compensate for that.
When i say "half weight", if you look at pics 6 and 7, you get the idea. If you hold a broom by the handle, have the head far away from you, try to wave your arm around as fast as you can. Now hold it by the head and repeat. Thats the effect which this shows. By having more weight at one end, you can aid certain forces while the crank is spinning. So even tho my new carrillo rods are lighter by some 57g, its 50g heavier at the end. We will wait to see how this works out. Im not sure how much my balance shafts need to be adjusted, if at all. I strongly suspect i wont need to adjust them at all.
The tech data on my rods are listed at 291g rotating and 114g reciprocating. I could probably make a fairly good guess as to what the stock rod is, but id have to measure it to be sure, but i could get it fairly close. Might do that one day during a lunch break..
Please remember my crank has been lightened by 629g, so there has been a fair bit of weight cut out of this thing so far. And im not finished. The rest will come in time. I have to sort those parts out. Have a few "other" things im finishing up while i have a chance. Ill post some info later.
