YZF750 swinger with R6 rear shock

Has anyone fitted an R6 rear shock while using a YZF750 swingarm?
Doesn't look like there is enough room for the stacked damper bottles.

Look at Kaylas post in 'services' section.
She offers an R6 shock adapter to fit it in the standard swinger, but IIRC says that it wont work with the yzf swinger........?

I replied to your PM about the adapter before I saw this thread. The R6 shock doesn't work with the YZF swingarm but it does work with the Thunderace swingarm

I just need to decide if I want to fit the yzf back end I have gathering dust.
I think I'll keep the swinger and sell the wheel and shock.

Mate, I'd fit the 750 wheel in the standard swinger with the r6 shock.

The 750 swinger is just like the trx one but with 'unnecessary' braceing.

I've got the bits and bobs to measure up for spacers if you decide to fit the YZF wheel in the TRX arm

No, but why would you want to do that? It'd be lost in there!

2 reasons really.

- I have just had new tyres fitted - and a 160 is more than ample rubber for any bike with less than 100bhp

- And I simply like the look of the braced swing-arm. It's only a couple of kg more than the standard swinger and with a nice carbon hugger wouldn't look that bad.

The distance between the spindle holes from left to right between the 2 swingers is less than 15mm (i did measure the 2 swingers last weekend - but it might be a little bit more) so 8mm ish either side wont really loose the wheel/tyre in a sea of emptiness.

I've fitted mixed matched bits before. A 3ma SP swinger to a YPVS with r6 shock and 3TJ wheels to a 1WG with r6 shock.

Half the fun is working it out and then finding a solution that not only looks good but actually works two.

I can work out some spacers to put the TRX wheel in the YZF arm if you want. The issue is the TRX spindle might not be long enough so you'd either have to use thin section bearings with spacers in the TRX wheel (so you can use the YZF spindle), or find a longer 20mm spindle and keep the standard TRX bearings. It's not impossible, just a bit of a chew on. It's easier if the wheel bearings are larger than the spindle diameter (which is usually the case!)

edit- R6 shocks rock! I've had them in a TZR250, my old 3EN1 and I'll be using one in my current TZR project

do you know if the r6 5sl (2003 - 2005) shocks fit anything? got 2 of those in my shed, just asking cos i'llbe ebaying them when i get chance if not

The lower shock mount on late model R6's is an eye type so won't fit the TRX, but some tzr250's have that type.

Though I remember my 2MA and 3MA's both had the fork type.

Just did an eBay.co.uk search for '2ma shock' and there are 2, one eye mount the other a fork. So looks like a TZR250 is a good start.

It's the first model R6 (yellow spring and horizontal reservoir) that can be used on the early 1KT/2MA with the lower eye mount, although people are tending to use the new 2006-on ones as they're the same length as the standard TZR shock and the reservoir doesn't get eaten by the chain

The later 2MAs and Japanese-only 2XT had the lower fork fitting

The TRX850 rear wheel spindle IS long enough to go through the YZF750 swinger, if you have 2x 5mm adjuster plates (the TRX has one 5mm and one 10mm) and the original TRX nut will fit properly if you dont use the 2mm washer.

So with my spare trx rear wheel spindle and adjusters I can use the 2 x 5mm wheel adjuster plates and with a new locking nut (slightly shorter) and a 1mm washer it will all bolt together.

I'll update when I have worked out if any spacer (other than 2 to fit in the swingarm spindle holes to keep the spindle centered - yes the adjuster plates will do that but as i'm making spacers anyway why not) are needed.
