Any crankshaft has to be balanced - the mass of the piston/gudgeon pin and approx a third of the conrod has to equal the mass of the "web" of the crank.
Easiest way to ensure less vibration is to match up the pistons to the same mass as the original - taking metal off the inside of the skirt is the favourite, or around the gudgeon pin bosses, if the new piston is heavier. Remember also that there are 2 balance shafts in the TDM/TRX engine - and they also help to equal out imbalances in the engine assembly - if you alter the crankshaft mass then you'll also have to alter the balance shaft mass - I'd stick to keeping the pistons to the original masses.
If you're going to be using a lot of high revs then it's worth considering Carillo conrods - my TDM has them fitted but for ordinary road work they're a waste of money IMO (the previous owner had them fitted)

I really (as in REALLY) wouldn't waste your money with new rods. For one they are as rare as feck (Over also made Ti ones), two effing expensive and three completely unnecessary.biker-nut-1986 wrote:thank you dandy

I have only ever heard of one example of rod failure (and that was on my bike) and know of many bikes running big bore kits etc over many miles

Like I said, unless you're racing the engine at continious high rpm, I'd wouldn't bother - They're £450 plus VAT - more than halfway to a set of FCRs
