Mods on a budget

Hi all,

I am a fairly recent 1st time trx owner, having picked up a 2001 model relatively cheaply! After the cost of the bike I had a few hundred left (350 approx) to play with, so I thought I would let other people know what I did - which in my opinion transformed the bike.

Firstly it had blue spots and braided hoses, but brakes were still rubbish - so £100 went on r1 master cylinder which transformed brakes. yzf 750 dog bones to raise back - excellent mod (£25). £120 went on getting the carbs set up on the dyno which was well worth it. Another £40 on a new front sprocket minus one tooth, and plus three sprocket on the back - totally transforms gearing and accelaration. Proper mirrors that you can see behind you (£25), and a good old oil change with activx additive to coat the internals against excessive wear (bike has done 45k). That brought me upto £350 and a really sweet running trx.

When I next have some spare cash, I fancy some nice brembo front pads! I've also heard that a k&n air filter is a good mod - any opinions on this? Is there a better/cheaper way to modify air box, so it sucks in more air avoiding the flat spot around 3k in third?

On a budget...well, it´s only good springs and correct oil setup in the fork left then!?

Some 'spot' calipers on the front will improve the front brakes even more.

I have a K&N filter in the standard airbox, but no flat spot at 3K rpm... might be related.

Went the same route with my brake set up, Before investing in new pads get them first scrubbed in the the disks.

Next is indeed a spring/oil replacement/setup as this will transform the bike in to an even better handling one.
Finde a good suspension specialist for that.

Have the same set up, standard jetting, but with race cans also seems to smooth out power curve
