Another break thru was the electric iron , freeing up even more time so our other halves could get a more productive use of the available day light hours . The list of helpful aids made by man is endless . So next time you see the little woman with washing up liquid give her a peck on the cheek and a pat on the arse " your doing a wonderful job love no need to say thank you for the house hold aids " Would then be a GOOD time to go for a long ride while she continues with the house chores

Having successfully fitted some heated grips (which really transformed winter-riding comfort), I now propose to rewire the circuit so that the grips are disabled with the ignition key. (As an interim measure, I wired them direct to the battery, which means that they could accidentally be left switched on, leaving me with a flat battery).

I would be grateful if someone could indicate the optimum way to rewire the power supply, with, or (preferably) without, a relay.

Having never seen or handled one, I'd presumed a relay might be rather bulky. But I've just bought a dinky 12v item from Maplins, and I had no idea how compact they were. It is now obvious that I should have used a relay, wired into the ignition circuit. I am going to use it to govern not only the heated grips, but also for the Motrax electronic chain oiler and a heated waistcoat as well!

Finally fitted some Oxford Sports Hotgrips wired with a relay for good measure. Bloody hell they are great. Two problems with them though. The first is minor. I find the + / - adjust buttons are a pain to use and a bit more fiddly than I was hoping. Not a biggie as its not something you have to change that often. The second is a bit more pressing though. The grips come with a tube of no brand superglue. It don't work. I tried twice so far using ever increasing amounts of the stuff and whilst it seemed to have worked fine a 20km commute later they were slipping again. I was quite relieved to work out that the reason the bike was accelerating like a slug was because the throttle was slipping.

The grips were an easy push fit - definitely some resistance but not nearly as difficult as most I've fitted. Anyone had similar experiences? I've got some old Renthal grip glue around somewhere from the last set I replaced if this is any good.

Try using hairspray. Used it on mtb grips and Renthals and works a treat.....
