Also check that the wire ain´t split in the housing, should go easy in the cables. Maybe guck in them...or just so easy they need som luuuube.drix wrote:I'm talking about the physical throttle's return when engine off.![]()
These FCRs came from a bank of 4 that got split. They came with KN filters (which are poorly adapted to fit so will get new ones) cables and throttle (not sure of their origin/what they were supposed to be used on).The guy I got them from made the mods and was running them on his TRX, standard engine with a set of cans which is the same config I have. Don't think dyno time would be required although the bike is in need of a good service for the next season so might have that done properly.
I'll play with the cable setting, see if they are too tight or not, finish off the install properly and test Dandy's suggestion.

Re: FCR install - a few questions
Sounds like they need some lubing and perhaps re-routing, mine are smooth as silk.
Also check that the twitgrip rubber is not rubbing against the alloy throttle cable housing/handlebar clamp. There should be a vinyl or P.T.F.E washer to stop it happening.

no point in testing my suggestion if it does it with the engine offdrix wrote:I'm talking about the physical throttle's return when engine off.![]()

Which is why i asked that very question
I'd fit your original throttle assembly (the one you took off) & see if the problem persists - start with the simple stuff first. If it still sticks it can only be routing of cable, worn cable (dry or frayed) or over tightening?

Probably be better routed from the right side of the headstock
My bike maybe a dinosaur but it still has some bite & has a mighty roar.

Re: FCR install - a few questions
Hmmmm, I`m nowhere near my bike but I`m sure I remember my cables are on the outside of the right hand carb, (viewed from sitting on the bike).
Yep, thought so, these 41`s are for a duke but as I thought the cables are on the right of the carb body unless you are dealing with a bank of four:
http://www.sudco.com/Media/Sudco_Ducati ... _Carbs.jpg
The image seems to show the cables between the two carb bodies does it not, these are a pair split from a bank of four, I wonder it that`s got something to do with the problem you are encountering drix, did you check the twistgrip for operating freely (without the cables attached), lubed the cables nicely?
To be honest the routing of the cables doesn`t look as though there are any tight bends from what I can see.
I`m wondering, on the paired FCR`s there is a powerful coil spring fitted behind the cable quadrant (where the cable nipples fit) to create return pressure for the cables and linkages, you can see it here shown as item 14:
http://www.sudco.com/fcrdown_diagram.html
Useful diagram that one, part descriptions and at the bottom of the page in blue text, a link to Keihin part numbers too.
Now, if your two carbs (paired) from the split bank of four has any spring tension issues or tight spots in the linkages that`ll be your problem.

Thanks for all the info!
Used my old twistgrip so it's fine and part #14 is on my carbs, I'll see if I can tighten it by giving it another turn maybe. The reason I think it's routing is because the return was perfect before fitting the carbs, I'll check with the guy I bought them from and how his routing was on his rex. Might look a new cables and twistgrip to solve this otherwise. Can I get some standrad stuff from the likes of M&P or should I get something Keihin specific from a distributor?
So annoying, it's the last thing that stops me from taking the bike for a spin (along with a close to flat battery)!
Cheers

Re: FCR install - a few questions
Speak to Allens, they`ll sort you out for cables:
http://www.allensperformance.co.uk/index.html
Their phone number is at the bottom right of that link.
If you click on the PRODUCTS box in red text, then click on THROTTLES, scroll down and you`ll see one with part number:
01_0073 (FZR style, black body).
I bought one and a pair of cables for my FCR`s when I came to fit them to the bike (the cables longer than stock as my TRX is streetfightered with Renthal bars) but actually found the cables fitted the stock TRX throttle housing fine and dandy so I never used it.
Can`t remember now how much it was.
Alternatively here`s another company I`ve used over the years a great deal, they will make up ANY cables, any length and style. You can buy all manner of cable nipples and fittings, just about anything `cable` related, plus they`ll make up brake lines etc in many styles and with all manner of fittings, Venhills:

Re: FCR install - a few questions
Right, had a play again and no matter the routing, as soon as they are bent to the right that's it, the throttle return isn't right. Throttle return isfine when they're in a straight line though.
Is it normal that on the throttle end, the length of push cable is sticking out is longer than the pull cable one?
Think I'll be better off getting a new set off cables/throttle from Allens Performance!

Re: FCR install - a few questions
I`ve found my throttle now, (the one I never used), if you want it make me a sensible offer, it`s brand new / unused
The cables would obviously need to be sourced from Allens or anyone else though.

Re: FCR install - a few questions
Hiya all
Played once more with the FCRs this week end and still have the same problem of when fitting the pull and return cables and when I bending them... I still get that slow throttle return. When the the cables are straight, they work fine and when I disconnect the return cable, it works fine, even when bent.
I've used some new cables (bicycle brake cables), fitted in my original throttle cable "guides/casing" (duno how it's called in English
), all properly greased and fitted etc. etc.
As you can imagine, it's doing my head in and was wondering how crucial the return cable is in fitting FCRs?
Cheers

Re: FCR install - a few questions
It's more important than in CV carbs because you can't always rely on the carb spring to close the slides. Sometimes, and it does happen, the slide can be pulled against the carb body by the vacuum from the engine and stick open- the positive return cable prevents that happening.drix wrote:Hiya all
