Looking for a carbon tank for the TRX

Hi guys.
I have had a 2001 TRX for the last 6-8 years. Over the years I have been modding it with a lot of carbon stuff:

Some years ago a guy was selling a carbon tank for the bike at ebay, but I missed the auction. This tank was one out of two ever made!
Does any of you know if one of these tanks is still available and better: Is it for sale?

Not ever heard of a carbon fibre tank for the trx in the last sixteen years.
Not,from this side of the ditch anyways.
I can remember the issues that Ducati had with their fibreglass tanks used on their early models with delamination and all.
For the case of matching all your other fibre panels,..try having your steel tank hydro dipped instead.
You would have the dependability of the steel with the matching finish.

Why not spend your money on lighter weight wheels???
Better performance with gains in acceleration and later braking plus makes the bike so much more lighter and nimbler to ride..

To make the tank out of carbon fibre the tank would be in two pieces..the top and the lower under section obviously .
The two halves would then need to be glued together.
That's where the problem will hit except if the inside was coated with the rust liner solution.

For the best practability, what do the manufacturers use for reliability and no stress.
Steel.
For cars its plastic tanks cos they don't have to be pretty.

I had a quick look on the tinterweb when I saw this post yesterday, you can get full carbon tanks for things like the R1, so its not implausible. Thch, references the scarcity of them so its likely they would have been a race team development thing back in the day. On that note, I'm not sure I'd trust a 20 year old carbon fibre tank now on an everday ride, hot cold cycling you'll probably find it starts leaking fairly soon.

The original post was asking if anyone had one, which is highly unlikely and if they did prying it from their steely grip would be another matter altogether.

From the pic (nice bike, btw) the tank and fairing are a pretty good match so visually I can't see you gaining much, dynamically you might find it has a negative effect on the handling.

Personally I'd go with Cobba's suggestion and put your wheels on a diet, you can supposedly get Carbon Dymags for the TRX (or atleast make them fit) if carbon is your particular fetish. If you must have a carbon tank have a look at making one, might take you a couple of goes depending how technically inclined you are but you can lay it up like fibre-glass and buff it to get that manufactured pre-preg look.

A little thought and homework, you'll be able to make a later model motorcycle wheels work on your TRX if you don't have a spare $5000 + to spend..

Greetings from austria.
I do have a carbon Kevlar gas tank.
Once I've heard there had been two manufactured. I got one for Euro 400 many years ago. Never seen another. So I'm that proud.

It wont quit answer your question, but how about a Aluminium Tank? Some companies have specialized on that.
Then paint it Black or wrap it in Carbon fiber foil :tongue7:
Probably cheaper then a 1 out of 2 tanks id say.

Fuel bag in a simply constructed 2 piece carbon "tank" should be easy. Link below for a fuel bag company.

Ive seem a few old trackbikes where the steel tank gets replaced by fibreglass shell, then you just have a simple little 3-5l aluminium tank inside the fibreglass shell.

I should clarify. The shell is made by taking a mould off your old steel tank.
