TR1X continued (now completed !!)

As you can see, ive got my hands on a 2002/2003 R1 front fairing. Obviously its not complete, but it was surprisingly simple thus far to attach.. Just some minor welding and fab work.

Getting the sides secured will be more effort obviously. They are hanging under their own weight currently. Should have it completed, and new swingarm in within a week. Once the swinger is on, then i can attach the new duck tail piece i made up. Still needs painting and MUCHO wiring to get it all working.

The R1 headlight is identical to the TRX.. normal light, and high beam, problem is there is 2 of the suckers now.. Nothing i cant fix. Im going to make it so its only the right hand side (if sitting on bike looking forwards) will come on, but highbeam is BOTH. But low beat only right will work (to comply with australian road rules).

comments and suggestions more than welcome !

PS: mind the rusty front disks.. Not ridden it for 3 weeks now, and its been raining HEAPS.. thats been the delay for me.. As i cant work on it as much as i want.. such is life really.

Bike looks great. I think the 12amp headlight fuse can handle 144wats of power so if the 2 high beams are under that should be ok. Was fitting the front end a drama? Upside down forks give it a real modern look. Nice work keep us posted on progress.

I'm happy just to get to ride my TRX every now and then...

...... been averaging 2 hours of sleep a night all this week finishing off a video. Completed a 11am this morning. DVD duping company in Norwood, DFH lives in Ridgehaven so off I went on the mighty TRX. Starts first turn after 3 weeks rest.. up to Inglewood, turn right to Gorge Rd

up Corkscrew Rd

acroos the ridge to Norton Summit

then down the hill to Norwood. Return by Basket ranges Rd to Lobie, then to Cudlee Creek and back up the Gorge.....

Quan know's all about them roads, and for you lot thats never been to Adelaide.......

any self-respecting rider knows the gorge

nice run.. i like the "up greenhill road, lobothal, medows, strath, back via eagle-on-the-hill run.. but whichever you prefer, adelaide has some of the best hill runs (imho)

As for time.. well,, days are getting shorter atm.. i just got my swingarm back, but its too dark to put it in atm.. so thats tomorrow.. Put bearings and axle and waht not in it.. all set otherwise.

Few minor tweaks to sort out but nothnig huge... need to shorten chain aswell obviously.. but yer.

Attaching the front wasnt very hard at all.. IF you have a welder, angle grinder, and some patience. luckily i have 2/3... but beer works in replacement of patience.. so im set

1: pull off front fairing
2: pull off the mounting thing it and the dash attach to
3: chop the mounting lugs off
4: weld new lugs on that line up with the R1 mounting
5: remount
6: drink beer and giggle like a skool girl.

took about... 3hrs total from starting to take the TRX off, to putting the R1 one on after the paint dried on the frame.. so not THAT hard really.. just LOTS AND LOTS of measuring / adjusting to get it to sit right..

QT - good work

Speaking from experience, hide the big hammer. The number of times I wanted to smash the crap out of my R1 fairing when I was doing it. The lining up and making new side mounts is what takes the time

Yep that a favourite too... so much choice, so little time. Should a moved here 10 years before I did....

Wanna go for a hoon when your Yamagiggle TRX/R1 hybrid is finished?

Best i can do today. I wanted to get it all cleaned up and partly welded in, but the missus reminded me we have a prior-engagement to attend to.. So i guess ill put up a "welding tutorial" and show more on the tail conversion at a later date.

only just got home. well inside to a computer.. Went out and picked the paint i want.. yup, full custom spray job, which im also doing (would you expect any less ?)

Just got the wiring all sorted aswell.. Works a charm.. Altho i have a "rapid" blinker state, its faster than it normally is.. Might sort that out with a 1kohm resister or somethin.. Wait and see.. Saying that, not all the electrics are hooked up as yet, so there is no load on the circuit (and NO acc ground) so its prolly not getting a chance to dump to earth properly.

Still working a touch on the indicators (front) and head light setup.. Ive got the wiring i need, but need some heat-shrink / solder.. Basically took the multimeter out, found out which wire was which signal, tagged it accordingly and dummy fit it up. Got it all sorted, but i want some heatshrink to re-do all the fittings (gonna do it properly or not at all).

But so far the LED tail lights and what not is uber.. its this kit here:
