Just fitted a HID kit that i picked up off ebay. Makes quite a difference, see for yourself. Matches the LED driving light for intensity. Once the rain clears i'll give it the acid test.

I've got one of those kits waiting to be fitted, just can't make up my mind whether to bung it in the Beemer or the TRX ..

That's one of those telescoping capsules isn't it? How does the beam pattern compare to an OE bulb...??

Yeah Greg, the bulb moves forward 4mm for high beam via a solenoid. The beam looks wider on my shed wall.

not that it will bother anyone but aftermarket hid kits are not road legal

really like the spot like under the headlight tho!

Took the bike to work tonight and the ride home was quite illuminating (pun intended) Absolutely brilliant. Low beam is very wide and bright, hi beam picked up a lot more road markers than i'm used to but didn't seem to have the spread that i was expecting. But then again it was a full moon out. All in all a very worthwile mod.

what sort of cost are these units and are there good and bad ones ??

You can get a bike specific kit from Ebay for about £50 delivered... The one I used (I eventually threw it in the Beemer..) came with everything I needed and took a couple of hours to fit, but only because I had acres of bodywork to get off first ...

Performance wise it's about 100% better than the OE halogen kit an the light it produces has a much different and 'sharper' quality to it than the old H4.

In terms of good or bad.. it's all a bit of a lottery, but I would imagine most of the commercial users/car manufacturers are using electronics sourced from China so I personally think you're not going to experience any more problems from these kits. The manufacturers reckon on an MTBF of 4-6000 hours which is plenty long enough! My kit looked very good - all the harness was sheathed and properly sealed, the ballast looked and felt a quality piece of kit - the only beef I had was that the body of the capsule was slightly fatter than a std H4 bulb so only one of my retaining clips would fit, but that was plenty to still hold the bulb secure so no issue really.

If you're thinking of getting one make sure that you get the telescoping bi-xenon capsules... the other version has a halogen bulb 'piggy-backed' to provide the high beam... kinda defeats the object I thought!

Yeah i agree ,they'd all come from China and the quality seems good. I paid $70 (about 30 pound i think) on ebay.

well just ordered my light unit its £12.50, but postage is £17.50 ,but that's still cheap ,,thanks Greg for your help
