Just gone from RAMAIR foam to K&N pods...

Damn i can tell you it started to run fat as hell, smelt gas really bad....and today it was below zero.
So i guess we can conclude that the ramair breaths easier, will report where i end up after rejet.

I have to say that really surprises me. IIRC your main jets were up about 175 weren't they?

I run 170 with the foam and that was kinda spot on.
Now i really felt the petrol stink, would be interesting to put it on the dyno but i have a crapload of stuff todo before the season starts!

So your saying pods are better than a K&N with the airbox ?

QT, I think he's saying that a foam Ramair filter flows more air than K&N pod filters.
I can tell you that K&N pods are way better at flowing air than an airbox and K&N filter - worth about 3bhp.

You´re quite right....and i´ll try post findings...not to much trouble testing that out.

acording to the book four stroke performance tuning a K&N pod filter gave the best air flow over belmouths pod filters and no filter fitted at all

way too many variables to make a comment like that!
and in the case of the TRX the airbox is fairly restrictive

are these mods with the std carbs ???or fcr only ?

KW and i were intially talking about FCRs.
I have heard that CVs respond well to pod filters and no airbox but I am sceptical given the need to supply still air to CVs

this was tested on a carb not sure what type I will dig out the book if you want, the shape of the filter had a lot to do with what give the best the cfm too, there is a chart on the page giving exact numbers going from standard airbox with one snorkel snorkel cut down two snorkels no filter at all foam filter and a K&N pod type filter

I put seperate K&Ns on the xjr and it lifted power almost 5 bhp once it was jetted correctly

that is standrad thinking for CV carbs (as are standard on the TRX)
although many people drill holes in the airbox or remove the snorkel, this has to be done carefully or you will feck up the mixture (which is why some people who have randomly drilled holes experience poor running in high winds)

A bit different with a four pot but interesting all the same (IIRC XJRs have fairly restrictive airboxes as well and respond well to free flowing pipes
