Post by Killerwhale » Mon Feb 25, 2008 1:07 pm

Well, a small sideproject before this season....
I´m going to try high speed port the head. Don´t know if it´s good for the trix but i like to have something to do.
Bought some welding material on ebay just now....
Will let you know the results...

Found his site a couple of years ago but he rants to much! :)
There are some Swedish sites about "D-porting" wich are more compressed when it comes to text....
Should be a fun project, but i have to change tyres and go for a dyno run first....

I'm with Speedy on being very very VERY (get the picture?) reluctant to glue anything into the inlet port/manifold... [-X

I got one of Phuk's old heads, and the half which remained identifiable as a cylinder head had been ported and I couldn't see anywhere that had been built up with additional material, just all surfaces smoothed and matched to the rubbers with a knife-edge on the bridge... It all looked very achievable with a die grinder or a small flap-wheel on a flexible drive.

hopefully qant will be along soon and show us what hes done ,,motomans idea for those who have not seen his work is to close up the inlet ports near the valve ,,this increases the gas speed into the chamber ,,,he backs this up by having a faster engine than the works bikes ( R6),,,, has anyone else got any input ??

All i know apart from that is that it´s kinda standard in Sweden, all bike have not been tested though.
And to correct above post....it´s not talk about glue anything here....

sorry killer have i got it wrong ..again, i thought jb weld was a two pack epoxy glue,, do you not intend to do the same as motoman ?ie fill the inlets up with jb weld , and then reshape the ports, or am i getting the wrong end of the sticky,,sorry #-o #-o #-o #-o

Maybe just language problems, i would call it liquid metal more than glue....it´s fekkin hard to work on. Last time i used it on a boat prop and it´s truly is cold welding!

Yuppers .. but it's still a two part epoxy resin based glue (call it what you will) with metal powder to reinforce it..

My immediate reaction is no no no, but I'm always open to persuasion (just ask Mrs Baker on the third Friday in months with an R in them..!)

i think you will find its slow cure epoxy with something like aluminium filings mixed in ,,i know motomans done this and iam sure others will come in more on the technical side but using this or any product that is glue ,and you run the risk of delamination as you know aluminium starts to corrode in about a Minuit so even when its bare alloy its already started to oxidize ,so in effect you will be trying to stick this product to powder ,,not good,,then there's the problem of heat expansion on the two different products ,,alloy and epoxy ,the whole area is constantly being washed by petrol ,,and in my layman's view its a recipe for disaster .... but good luck and keep us updated

I've seen this done on ZX-7Rs a fair bit. They suffer from, amongst other things, oversized inlet tracts giving slow intake velocity.

The idea, of course, is to narrow the inlet and increase velocity. At the same time you can also have a very rough dimpled surface to increase turbulence and improve burn.

It would pay to roughen the inlet on the head first to lessen the likelihood of this stuff breaking off.

I just used JB Weld to fix a set of crankcases. A colleague at work tells me REME use this stuff to repair armour on tanks.

It is very strong stuff and I wouldn't be scared of (someone else) doing this with it.
