Re: Dash Version 2
started out with a Nano-ITX motherboard. Its a VIA-NX15000G. Basically a 12cm X 12cm 1.5ghz machine. 1gb DDR2 ram and a 16gb compact flash card as a HDD. Boots fairly fast.

It all fits under my pillion seat and is wired to run 12v off the battery when ignition key turns on. Recieves the shutdown pulse when i turn the key off..
Touch screen is a 7" LCD ebay special. 800x600 res. Works fairly well which is nice.
I had to machine up a custom billet housing in my spare time. Ive already noticed a few things i want to change on it, so ill start work on that soon as i get some free time.
Software is WinXP, litestep as a shell replacement, which im still getting the config the way i want. GPS software is Destinator 6, with full Australian map, (Q2 2006), USB GPS from ebay works a treat.
The dash is designed by me via Megatunix software. It hooks into a megasquirt (MS2V3) for all the control. I got sick of having fixed timing on a TRX, so i wanted to find a way to control spark, and i got the side benefit of being able to control anything on the bike, including EFI if i choose.

Many of you know i have a spare motor, and most of you know im half way thru injecting it and making it 900cc. Well, im altering the timing pickup aswell.
36teeth, 1 missing as the "tach" tooth. The new computer "learns" where TDC is via the missing tooth. 36 teeth, 360degs, you also have a rising edge and falling edge. So you technically have 72 points per rev to pickup on.
The megasquirt also will allow a knock sensor to do the timing. I havnt gotten that far yet, but once the bike is running, ill put the knock sensor on, and let the bike take care of timing.
The crank will do 10 revs, if the knock sensor DOESNT send a signal, advance is increased by 1deg, repeat until a signal is recieved. Retard timing by 5deg.. repeat. Compare the first result to the current one, if they are the same (within a given % range) retard timing 2deg from that number.
If i get a bad batch of fuel, bike will auto adjust timing, much like a flex-fuel car would. Obviously a dyno would be WAY more accurate, because you get the timing set for the whole rev range, but its a good thing if you are stranded in some strange place and the fuel is a bit old. Computer goes "holy crap batman, i got a knock, ill just back the timing off and see what happens".. once you get home to some good fuel, just quickly navigate thru the menu and select your standard fuel / spark map.
Computer has full datalog / conditional setup. It will also control NOS or a turbo if you wish. NOS can be 2 stage, aswell as turbo.. its pretty sweet.
www.tr1x.org for a bit more.. page is still... new. i put some new software for easier updates on there. but yer.. its a bit "generic" currently.. such is life.
And back to my 1st ever fathers day...

Re: Dash Version 2
heh, cheers for the offer to let me slum it. I dont have tix as yet, and we usually stay in mt gambier, since its where i used to live. We go to the super bikes each year usually. Never actually been to a GP yet.. Its just a bit hard with a 1yo kid currently. He cant really have a whole 3 days track side.. and anything less isnt worth it.
Ill get back to you, but i suspect we are probably gonna give it a miss.. But you never know.. I might come and stink out your house with some roo poo.

That explains your connection with mac Park . Anytime your heading to mexico town the bed is there (and your missus and kid as long as the little bloke don't make too much noise or piss on my lino floor) can you fit a camera to your box of tricks doing away with rear mirrors

Very cool install.
Funnily enough, I have been thinking on the same lines for both of my bikes. After seeing a trailtech Vapor which i Was going to buy for my Supermoto, I bought a Cheap 4.3 inch sat nav with the view of modifying it. It is a navigo sy885. running win ce5.0 I wondered if i could do a similar thing with it using the usb port and a usb a-d convertor and some custom software whether i could get it to do a similar thing, I already got the gps part hacked, and I am running four different Sat nav softwares. Also got a digital speed app working off GPS. And a trip counter working off gps. This gps is available for £65 in U.k.
here is the link.

Also link to some of the stuff i got working on mine for now..

got it running mp3 player and sat nav / speedo at the same time which is great on the bike.

Re: Dash Version 2
Me and a mate were laughing at the idea of mounting a USB webcam in the nose cone. Fibreglass it in and make it look hidden. Then with a wifi connection, anyone passing by with a wifi enabled laptop / mobile device.. i could stream content to them in much the way motogp does. Then we both went sullen and realised its VERY possible to do.. Also have a rear facing camera and check whats going on. Imagine that in a court if you record all the time.. B&W, 15fps, 1hr would be ~1gb of data.. EVERYTHING on there takes up less than 1gb currently, and thats inclusive of winxp. If the day is normal. Just delete the video. Could prove fun.
As for modding a 4.3" GPS to do what im doing.. It doesnt have the grunt im afraid. WinCE is a whole different thing to winxp. Win95 has more power than wince does. Actually i heard somewhere that wince is a stripped down win95 kernel with a bit of tweaking.
The mobo i use is 1.5ghz via.. Yes its fairly useless for most things, but it works for what i want. an intel pentium3 500mhz (or AMD equal) is the MINIMUM to run the software. Even then it would be fairly jerky.
Cheers for the invite bob.. Might take you up on it one day.. They hold track days for bikes @ mac park on the last weekend of every month. I wanna go soon.. But see how things turn out for me.

Re: Dash Version 2
quan- time,
Thanks for the quick reply, I didnt want to go for the fuel injection stuff, just would have been nice to do abit more with win ce o/s i am sure the webcam thing can be done though. even if i could get the rev counter going would be good. I see Asus are doing the eee pc this may prove a viable proposition. Certainly worth watching out to see waht can be done with some of these small units. nano itx is good. I remember the good old days of win 3.1 and win95 when were struggling to get anything to work properly let alone mp3 /sat nav... and ohhhh remember multimedia that was a real invention.... its everywhere now..
hey,, whatabout the days of tuning the peugeot jet force compressor with a nintendo DS remember that ?
keep up the good work. will be watching with interest....

Re: Dash Version 2
i remember tuning with a nintendo gameboy advance. VERY limited, but it was possible..
the asus EEEpc is quite a viable option.. $500 aud or less, and it works perfectly im told.. You can hook up a USB LCD like i have aswell, else have it static dash.. Its all personal i guess.
Im still sorting out some of the programming on the 2nd control unit. Basically the megasquirt ECU controls and runs everything. The LCD is mearly a tuning option. Most ppl dont run the LCD at all unless its on a dyno. But i wanted to take it that one step further.
Use your imagination, the sky's the limit really.
