Naked as the day she was born :)

I just finished streetfightering my bike :D

Image

Apologies for the crappy pic, I took it from our living room window (I couldn't be chewed to go back down with my phone and I was choking for a cuppa  )

It was relatively straightforward. It's a standard top yoke drilled for risers and plated underneath to help spread the stresses along the outer edges of the yoke. There was a lot of swearing and routing/re-routing/re-re-routing (you're getting the idea...) of the throttle cables until I realised it was fouling on the little dibble that sticks out underneath the ignition barrel. A couple of seconds with a hacksaw/file/swearbox and it was sorted. The headlight fairing thingy is a generic enduro twin headlight effort that I picked up for three of our finest British Pounds Sterling last weekend at an autojumble. It cleaned up nicely :D The clutch cable was routed behind the steering stem and allows a nice free action at full lock both sides.

Gauges? Ah, right... To paraphrase Blazing Saddles, 'Gauges? We don't need no steenkin' gauges'. I'll get a Vapor dash come next pay day. The bike runs fine sans tacho and I just left the derestrictor plugged into the loom, tucked behind the headlight. Job's a good 'un and it rides really nicely :D

All of the work was done by my good self, apart from the actual drilling of the yoke which my bf did. Now, if you'll excuse me I'm off to have a bath and sort my (absolutely knackered) nails out Image

I'm getting the impression that you're a bit of a frustrated mechanical engineer...

Nice work from what I can see though - does the BF appreciate your talents or does he do the knitting and flower arranging ...

I wish my Missus had more of an 'understanding' of these things, but she tells me to shoo off out of the way while she gets on with the cookin' and the cleanin' and looking after her menfolk...

Steve- No, you're a chauvinist :D

Greg- I just love bikes and engines and like changing stuff to make it work better for me. Chris (bf) was completely taken aback when we met, here's a reconstruction;

Chris- Hello
me- hello
... blah blah blah...
Chris (trying to impress)- I ride a bike
me (bit nonplussed)- Really, what?
Chris (not expecting me to know anything past The Big Four)-A Buell
me- Which one?
Chris (starting to take more interest)-Firebolt
me- Which one, the 9 or the 12?
Chris- The 12. Marry me.

He does despair at my love for the two stroke though. I will, one day, own a 250LC :D

And also have a '71 GT750A in a garage in Parkstone (so long as the owner hasn't emptied it yet ... I really must go and check  ..)

nice one =D> are they standard topyokes that you drilled?

my gf used her bike interest to chat me up
she's only on a 125 but she now knows how to do oil&filter changes, adjust the chain etc
she's been muttering about going to college for an evening course in bike maintenance coz i aint teaching her fast enough

my latest suggestion was to get her a scrapy 125 scrambler for her to rebuild
but i need to finish rebuilding a TDM engine and making the XTZ panniers before theres room in the garage for that

Tony- I can definitely recommend an evening class in the basics, if only to get experience of stuff on someone else's bike/engine.

Trixz- My nails are beyond hope but at least they'll grow back soon enough :(

Steve- I'll take some better pics when it stops sodding raining. Honestly, I'm thinking of selling up and buying a dinghy. How rubbish is the weather?
