Headlamp bulbs - recommendations plse

Post by Corners R Us » Mon Apr 27, 2009 9:47 pm

Whilst out 'playing' down the lanes to Abergavenny at the weekend it was commented on by my riding companions as to how pissy weak my stock headlight was...well I didn't want to dazzle them as I appeared inside and outside of them in the bends!!

I've done a search on here but can only find comments about FZR400 twin headlamps/bulbs.

What H4 (correct?) bulb do peeps use in their stock headlights.

Any recommendations appreciated before I start researching HID upgrades like this one:

I`m not certain but I`ll guess an H4 60/55w is standard.
There are high power alternatives, they draw the same current but give a higher light output, not cheap though!
Here are those PIAA bulbs that M&P market,40 ferkin quid for a bulb!!!!!:

To coin a phrase 'kin ell!, how dear?!' I think I'd rather spend the extra and go HID Xenon!! More research required on those bulbs to find a cheaper supplier perhaps?

Thanks for the insight...illuminating - pun fully intended!

50% brighter from Lidl - made by Tesla, Osram by another name - around £2.99 - work well, don't go for the blue - they're crap!
1996 TRX 850, blue, Ohlins 46HRCLS, Race Tech Gold Valves, 0.90 springs, Venom pipes, R6 brakes............
1974 Yamaha RD250A, Candy Blue
1998 Yamaha SZR660, blue of course
1967 Yamaha TD1C 250, Blue and white

I've xenon in the TRX (with a FZR600 headlight unit), but my other bike also has H4 bulbs; Philips BlueVision in it right now.
I don't know if Philips MotoVision bulbs are available in your country? I only found this page in Dutch, but you get the idea:

My father uses Motovision bulbs which seems to be good stuff.

Although I really appreciate the xenon conversion myself, rumors are that there will be new regulations that prohibit the use of HID xenon lights in headlight units that originally are meant for halogen. This accounts for the NL, don't know how this goes in the UK, but because you guys have to deal with MOT's and stuff like that on your side of the pool... doesn't hurt to keep it mind.

In the ebay advert:
“The bulb uses plasma to make pure white light. Plasma, Like in Star Trek”
