With all the fork swaps that have been performed by members,I figured this will be a dead easy one to answer.
I'm a couple of hours in to an R6 fork swap.All is going to plan until I try to remove the bolts that secure the ignition switch assembly to the top yoke on the TRX. I'm sure there must be an easy way to remove these 2 bolts,but they've got me stumped at the moment They look like shear bolts one moment and like thin gauge steel anti-tamper caps that can be prised out the next. This is of course looking from the underside.
If someone can give me the definitive answer on what they are and the best way to attack them,I'd be most grateful.

Hahahaha,yep drilling`s the answer.
Then IF you`re lucky you`ll be able to `persuade` what remains out of their holes with a decent set of vice/mole grips.
Failing that it`s `easy-outs` to the rescue.

Thanks. I actually made the right decision. They didn't come out without putting up some determined resistance.I'm sort of hoping the ignition lock might be the guttiest aspect of the swap. At least now I can continue the project when I find some more time.

Just out of interest,are you using a stock TRX headstock stem pressed into an R6 bottom yoke or have you had something suitable machined up?
I`ve still to do my R1 conversion but am toying with the idea of having some rather nice CNC`ed alloy yokes made utilising a stock stem(I have a spare).I`m wanting to keep the TRX`s standard geometry so might go down the route of a stepped top yoke too as the 98>01 R1 forks are shorter than standard TRX forks.

Mince, I've got R6 forks yokes and clipons,aquired from ebay last year,£80 and only 7 miles down the road from me.
I have already pressed out the R6 stem and am hoping that the TRX stem will be a straightforward press into the R6 bottom yoke. I'm prepared for (and fully expect) a little maching to be neccessary.
I wouldn't expect an R1 swap to be any more difficult,so good luck with your swap.

Hey,members who`ve completed the R1 fork conversion,does a standard TRX ignition fit the R1 top yoke,or is there some remounting required because of bolt hole diameters or spacing etc?
I`m not concerned about steering lock issues,never use the bloody things anyway.

Don't know about an R1,but I had to weld up and alter the distance between the bolt holes to use the TRX ignition lock in my R6 top yoke. Feel sure that you will encounter the same problem,not insurmountable though. Good luck with it.

With my R1 conversion, the standard TRX ignition did fit, however spacers were needed to sit between the ignition and the top clamp (the bolt passes through this and into the top clamp). I looked fine and worked, no need for anything more than this I assume. You will have to grind off the standard TRX ignition steering stopper though.

You mean the lug that would normally locate in the frame/headstock to apply the steering lock?

To me the STD TRX IGNITION STOPPER is the POLICE... Me thinks the local constable would get a bit upset if i put a grinder to his headstock

I was after a very clean look so relocated the ignition inside the trellis, problem solved. Ground away the ignition mount off the R1 top yoke and painted it for a tidy finish. Sorry, can't say if the std TRX barrel fits the R1 yoke though as I never tried it.

Yes, the TRX ignition fits the R1 top yoke. But (as has been said) the steering lock does not line up

I´ve used a certain size in spacers on my R1 ´03 fork and i can use the steering lock, had to grind down the steering stop on left side though.
