As mentioned in an other thread I bought my TRX in October with the need of a good riding tool in the Blackforrest.
But also to do a body change, as this is more my thing than a tech upgrade. I also do love that but its not what i do in my day job.

As this is a privat/personal build, witch I do in limited space and restricted budget, the idea was to make an updated look for the TRX without doing extensive model work.
The idea is to keep the frame but do some small changes to give room for the R1 2002 seat .
For the front I have chosen to use the R1 2009, I feel the head light is a bit small and narrow for the 1000cc R1 but would fit better to the more narrow TRX.
So at the start of the project i dis some Photoshop work to see if the parts would be possible to fit and what the overall look would be.

So In Oktober I have bought most parts I needed and Found a Good running TRX that looked good enough to keep the Tech parts as they are.
and the build could begin.

As mentioned the parts came in some time ago the the build is on its way.
The next pictures are from work done over the last 2 Months.

Hirst was getting the bike from the non heated Garage in to my heated work room on the 2nd floor.


Than tha frame had to be seen by the TUV to get the Go-a-head. and the make the frame changes intened.


Getting the TUV involve early will make it a lot easier the to have the bike German road legal when it is finished.
The want e marks on allmost all safety part (lights, rear reflector, mirrors, indicators, screen, exhaust...) and official papers if you change discs, levers, handlebars, footpegs, callipers, Carbs, Glasfiber bodyparts, even tires.
Funny thing is that if some one has papers with TUV approval on his/her bike it will be more easy to get it on Your bike.
But it is also possible to get a one off approval if you made parts your self.

This is also made me to decide to keep a lot standard for now..

To the frame change.
Prepared bend and cut tubes to go in the frame.

I wanted to have the seat latches working with the R1 rear seat cover and front seat to keep it in tune with the TRX.
That is why the latch mounting plate is widened and relocated to the front, as the R1 rear seat hinges the otherway around.

Next problem as you can see is the TRX battery tray colliding withe the undertail plate of the R1.

After some thinking and trying I decide to make a bigger cut on the Battery box and cutting it off close to the ECU.
Than cutting the R1 undertray so it will fit under the ECU position, screwing the 3(Batterybox, undertray and ECU) together.
Also using the 2 mid mounting point on the frame for extra support and sinking those 2 srew points (not yet in the photos)



Next is the seat...

Do we get a commission if we send your photopic to Yamaha and they employ you to make it officially

The TRX seat does not fit to the new R1 rear body
Also the R1 seat does not fit to the TRX tank....

One of the t has to be changed.
I got hold of a cheap damaged R1 seat, it also fits better to the new rear in with.
So I had to alter to front to fit to the more angula TRX tank. Removed the cover and the foam to work on the plastic base plate.
The new seat-frame-tail piece arrangement ment that there is a gap between the seat pan and the frame rails.

And as I wanted to uses the TRX way to mount the seat I had to solve a few problems at the same time.
Material of choice for this situation is wood, Plywood, Yes I did use it before on my CBR600project and after painting it is good for riding.

It ended up looking like this.

Well it is already a bit less edgy,to save some weight.

So with both seats on it looks like this.


Latches are made and fit.
Need to make some alterations to make them good.

How do you propose to get it down from the second floor when finished? Hopefully the fun way...

The Stairs has 2 turns also from my work room to the front door is not ridable.
Pobably the way it cam up...in Parts.

I plan to do a compleet buildup thant partly strip it.
Carry it down and rebuild in my garage.

i used the same 2002 rear end on mine, looks nice. Used a different front to you tho.. Sorta like yours actually.. Depends how it ends up in real,, with proportions, etc.
