starting from Std settings for an R6 shock as per handbook.. and remembering the spring rate is slightly higher on these also being 9.6 compared to 9.0 std TRX ...rebound 16clicks a/clockwise..16 clicks slow comp a/cw.. 4clicks ..fast comp a/cw
My weight coming in around 84kg fully suited up I found so far I've gone and backed off another 4clicks a/cw on the fast comp...

This is such a cheap alternative than buying an aftermaket shock and seems to work improve the rear end to no ends.. The slow comp soaking the slow undulations and the fast comp kicking in with those harsh bumps wonderfully.. This is complimenting the emulators on the front end to bringing riding the TRX to another level of satsfaction.

The only thing still noticeable was that squatting when rolling hard on the throttle coming out of those tight 2nd gear corners.But its still holding the line ..
best thing I could have done too the other day was got rid of that 170 rear tyre and went back to std 160.

I have fitted one to my trx but only been out for a quick spin last weekend (100 miles ).on my normal local bumpy b road route bike deffo feels better , im running standard R6 settings at the moment but will have a bit of a play with settings later. I have fitted my shock with the yzf750 swinger but me and a engineering mate have made top tunnel of the arm larger to stop the shock hitting the swingarm.

I found it tended to throw me off the saddle a little on larger bumps while on std settings so thats why I just backed off the comp .

hi cobba,my r6 shock is just wonderfull,it has transformed the bike from hash to smooth. I can go faster thru my favourite corners now,ahhh bliss.

I too have an R6 rear shock with a special adoptor that jacks up the back end too. I have it set at standard R6 settings at the moment. Things seem to be fine at the moment but I do get a feeling that the back end is dropping when pouring on the power. I think I need some more preload as I'm about 115kg in my bike kit but do you think the compression damping (high speed?) needs upping? I don't know if the power is making the back squatdown?

Normally the Low speed compression Damping adjustment is used to counter the squatting on excelleration.
This is a low speed movement so low speed comp should be adjusted, not the Highspeed.

But a bit of squatting is what you want as this transfers the CG to the rear wheel making it grip

But with Your 115Kg I think you are a bit more that what the R6 shock was intended to take.

But I have now experience with an R1 shock on a TRX.

just found some settings in an old performance bike mag (july 2006)from a test they did on adjusting R6 06 suspension on a b-road , might be worth trying these.

06 rear shock settings . (standard)

rear rebound 7 from max (std 10)

rear low speed comp 12 from max (std 12)

rear high speed comp 10 from max (std 6)

rear preload set to static sag of 6mm

Like steve just mentioned getting the static sag is always the primary starting point in setting up suspension.. I was just lucky that when I looked on the racetech site and checked out the spring rates the rear spring rate of 9.8kg/mm comes in for an ideal weight for a rider at 86kg. So static sag on std setting was at 10mm.....
If you check the site out you'll be able to use the calculator for your weight and spring rate..115/120 like hjp1986 and reddog will require a 11kg/mm rear spring for optimum performance but you can set youre front springs from here also..

Went out for a spin this morning with pb settings in , back end feels much better seems to be a bit firmer and rides the bumps better. well worth trying

Does a R6 shock bolt straight in? What model-years R6's shock is "compatible"?

I have an öhlins YZF shock fitted but even with altered damping still not completely satisfied with it.

Kayla has made up some adaptors to fit 06/07 onwards... What's your weight drmac if you dont mind me asking..

Im around 86-88 fully suited. Preload is set to one notch down from highest/firmest to get correct static sag. Has the same experience with compression and rebound as cobbadiggabuddyblooo and same settings.

So it seems that to get the most out of the rear shock (R6) you have to jack up the preload quite seriously before it starts to talk with the front end. Mine was understeering before I firmed the rear - so it was not the forks, it was the rear that sorted it out!

Oh, I have the racetech emulators and springs in front but I believe that if you haven't made that mod you really should start with the forks before looking at the rear.

I have changed the front springs to hyperpro progressive and it feels much better then before , im wating for the adapterfor the shock.

The shock i got is from a -09 r6 according to racetec its optimal for 9,8 spring 87kg driver on a r6 but i dont know if how it canges when you put it on the trx as heavier bike and if the swing-arm maybe longer and linkage is different?

Hopefully it can sort of support up to 100- 105 kg

Cobba dint jack up the preload ore did you cobba -did he ? tell me what you did
