Carbs are the enemy!

Post by M.V. » Fri May 13, 2011 6:30 am

Or not in this case!

I am getting new carbs for the TRX, that is certain. What is not certain, is what type!

Anyone have the good oil on the FCR vs TDMR? I guess I'm after better throttle response & more power, they should both deliver on those fronts, right?

Assuming nothing secondhand pops up at the right price in the meantime, I can get the FCR's for about $900 delivered with a Jet kit, still waiting to hear back about the TDMR's...

I've got TDMR's and have more or less the same results as this lad:

Here's more information of what I did:
http://trx850.motomaniac.net/forum/view ... 4&start=60

And the choice for TDMR's instead of FCR is because... I just ran into these, were for sale second hand. :)

Thanks for the info Tarwtijger, I'll keep my eyes open for whatever comes up.

FYI, I emailed the australian distributors for Mikuni & they told me they don't make a downdraft carb... :?:

Hi M.V.

Lots of discussions about the TDMR40 vs the FCR41's.
I decided for the TDMR40 set - they were recommended by Allens in the UK.
Some people say the FCR's are better but they both deliver approx 10 HP more and the TDMR40 have a choke function whereas the FCR's needs 2 or 3 blips on the throttle before the engine starts.
The TDMR40 is a ready to use bolt-on kit with new throttlecables etc included. Took me 1 hour to fit alltogether!
I only had to increase the main jet one size up before the engine runs almost perfect (must find a way to upload my latest Dyno testrun).
I bought my set new from Kedo in Germany - they were about 100 quid cheaper than in the UK and the service is excellent. I have looked for months at eBay and in this forum for a second hand set without luck, so I decided to buy a brand new set.
It's up to you :-)

Regards Thomas

Thanks for the info, Thomas, I appreciate it.

Only problem is, the local distributors for Mikuni claim the carb doesn't exist! #-o

I'll have to see if I can import some from the US, makes sense with our dollar so good against the greenback.

How is your Aussie dollar against the Yen M.V?

http://shop.yoshimura-jp.com/en/product ... hp?id=1158

Oh and your local supplier, tell them they are `paired` TMR40`s but the `D` denotes downdraught type. Allens add another code to the TDMR40 (-B11):

http://www.allensperformance.co.uk/tdmr40-b11.html

Topham in Germany are good folk and as has already been said, so are Kedo:

Good question that... 1 yen is 0.0114840 AUD ... ? 1 AUD buys 1.06632 USD. I don't know if the Us would have carbs to suit being the TRX was never sold there.

The Mikuni distributor (or so they claim) for australia told me flat out they don't have a downdraughtt carb... The Mikuni's look like they'll be too much work I reckon.

If they were not downdraught type they would be of no use on the TRX given the position of the float bowls of standard TMR`s, (think of fuel levels)
Oh and that other thread I started:

http://trx850.motomaniac.net/forum/view ... f=6&t=6628

Search through that lot and you`ll find carb kits, both Keihin and Mikuni too.
