Hi all...new on the forum & have just bought my first trx which is being delivered this week & cant wait!!
Can anyone advise the best mods to carry out on the trx for engine & handling..
Is there a jet kit (dynojet) available? Whats a list of the basic mods you guys do to get the best out of your trx.
Mines got yoshi cans & r1 calipers
Airbox mods?
Airfilter?
Drop forks in yokes?
Best tyres?
etc etc

Any advice you can give will be very much appreciated...

Set all suspension to stock settings.

Drop forks through the yokes by 15-20mm.

-1T front sprocket.

Set of cans.

R1 brake calipers/braided hoses/R1 master cylinder.

EBC HH pads.

Progressively did this to both my TRX's and it made them a fun tool to use that could more than hold its own against newer/faster tackle.

If you want to go further: front springs/heavier fork oil. R6 rear shock and adaptor.

ENJOY!!!!!

Tyre wise I ran Metzeler Sportecs, Avon AV45/46 and more recently Avon Storms. Have been using Maxxis Supermaxx Sports and have been impressed with them at £160 for a pair fitted to loose wheels.

Hey corners - cheers for the info dude - much appreciated - cant wait for my trx to arrive but it will be in the hand of couriers...well the bike is 400 mile away! scary buying off flea-bay without even see'ing in the flesh...fingers crossed!!

I wouldn't buy from E-bay without looking at it, hope the owner sent you hundreds of pics and sound clips!

If you want more go put a pair of FCR's on it!

Dynojet do a stage 1 for the TRX. Put a search in for mods, should tell you all you need to know.

K&N airfilter is good.

If it was mine the first thing i would do is adjust all settings back to standard. Make sure that the throttle freeplay and the chain adjustment is correct ,this alone makes a huge difference. Replace the fork oil, sparkplugs and engine oil/filter. Pump the tyres up to correct pressure, lube the chain and then ride the thing.

O c'mon guys I'm already scared shitless buying off fleabay without seeing 1st..had countless bikes from rd350lc's to aprillia tuono/sv1000/tl1000s/streetfighters etc but never without viewing 1st! Fav bike to date was me gixxer 750slingshot L that I rebuilt with dynojet, ign advancer, full race system blah blah which handled so sweet but I seem to jus get bored too quick - always had a sweet spot for the trx but only now got round to getting 1! I'm hoping this 1 will be a "keeper"...retro-cool. I will keep u posted when bike arrives if only I can get confirmation from 1 of the couriers when the fook they can get it to me!
Any more advice greatly appreciated @ this stage...anything I get stuck with I got a mate who does drag racing with experience of building turbo/nitrous motors-not for 1 minute i'm going to this extreme!
Showing my ignorance what are fcr's people are referring to?-worth dynojetting or these new carby's?

Lets hope for fun on the twisties & not noticing the drop in ponies

E BAY I bought my first wife on E BAY nothing like what they discribed.. Blew smoke,use to always cough and fart first thing in the morning, and cost me more money in maintainence than I would like to mention.. Welcome aboard from down under.. Don't stress I'm sure she'll be alright mate

FCR's are Keihin flatslide carbs and give better power and throttle response.

Keihin FCR41s (or 39s!) are awesome-



I wouldn't bother with dynojet stuff, there's no need. Corners (up there ^ ) is right about dropping the front by 15-20mm - it makes a big difference - and you can also raise the rear by 20mm or so too. They're quite lazy as standard and can take a bit of sharpening up!

FWIW I've bought plenty of bikes unseen with no issues. In fact I would argue if you ask the right questions, ebay is safer than an autotrader purchase.

My advice - take everything back to standard and then play with the suspension. Chances are the forks will need new oil (and possibly springs) and the rear will be shot but .... As has been said, you can jack up rear with YZF dogbones and / or drop yokes.

Then change all the fluids and fit braided hoses. And then bluespots.

Only then should you consider performance. End cans first and a free flowing filter should give you a healthy dollop of power. Final drive ration changes (sprockets) will make it ride / pull better as well.

After that, power costs but your next port fo call shoud be flat slide carbs and a free flowing exhaust.

As for tyres - take your pick. Most new tyres will handle anything the average rider can throw at them.

FIRST: CHECK THE OIL!

There's no oil pressure light. To check the oil, you need to run the bike for 10 minutes, then shut the engine off, hold the bike level & see if any oil shows in the window. If not, top it up & try again.

Plenty of TRX's have thrown big ends (usually on the left) because of lack of oil, my first engine included.

Fork springs to suit your weight, change the oil to 15W while you're there, unless you only weigh 50kg, in which case it'll be fine

If you do any night riding fit a HID headlight, or a twin projector headlight from an FZR, or preferably both!

Blue/gold/silver spot calipers from R1/R6/FZ1 bolt straight on & are a good upgrade. Good sintered pads too.

Braided lines, K&N filter, either put in a Factory Pro jet kit & emulsion tubes & set the carbs up properly (they run very rich stock, & get worse as the e tubes wear) or replace the carbs with FCR's ($1000-1200, but very good bang for you buck)

Pilot Road 2's are a great tyre for the TRX...

Yes, definitely set everything back to standard, there's a service manual floating around somewhere...

Case in point; when I got mine, the top of the fork stanchions were flush with the top yoke/clipons, little did I know there should have been 18mm of stanchion poking through there There were a few weird steering (or lack of) moments, let me tell you!

Other than that, I think you'll find most everything has been covered on here, if not, we're more than happy to hear about it

Knowing me I'll be going right through the bike as soon as it arrives to make sure everything is as it should be with a full service (i'm an engineer). Well thats after i've taken for a quick blip around some local twisties of course
So the bike's already got pair of yoshi's & bluespot calipers so thinking best thing for me to go for(save for) is the set of fcr's...what is the best size to go for to suit the trx?

Will have to let you know what she turns up like!

Keihin FCR 41's are the go ,been some good deals on new ones going around lately.
