I've been after a Trx for a long time. Bought a 96 with 10.5k on the clock absolutly perfect been sorn for 7 years. The only issue is it seems to use 250ml of oil every 200 miles. Ther are no leeks and no smoke, is this normal

Yep perfectly acceptable, very few don`t use it at those levels. `Timid` running in being mostly to blame, the motors like running in hard.
Some folk have found switching to high quality oils helps, fully synthetic too. SEARCH is your friend on this subject.
Oooo, hello and welcome too by the way. :D

How do find the jump from 1st to 2nd gear. My other bike is a Japanese 600 4 cylinder. This trx is a real different feel. I've thought of changing the spockets what do you think?

Multi riders often need a little time to master the way a big parallel twin changes gear but she should be a positive change with such low milage, does she jump into nuetral?
I can`t stand four pots myself, like riding sewing machines they are TOO smooth!

Its a very positive gear change it just seems like hard work in town, 1st feels too low 2nd snatches the chain. It feels best in first with the engine reving and the pipes yelling

If 1st feels too low are you sure engine hasn't been changed for a TDM one - TRX has a (over) high 1st, it'll do around 65 in 1st.....................

Yamaha regards a litre of oil per 1000 miles as 'acceptable usage' so I wouldn't worry too much.

Just checking though - you do know how to check the oil level on a TRX? It isn't the same as normal bikes as it has a dry sump.

As has been said, have a search and you will find.

Welcome btw
