Bought a 'REDUCE SPEED'' road sign from the local council recycle depot...to use for the odd piece of alloy need, and possibly make myself a yzf 750 rear swing hugger..[the fibreglass ones are booring]..the alloy proved to be high tensile and not able to be hammer streached easilly..so how about a rear seat lid..i cut a patern out leaving plenty for trimming and welded the end wall in ...a couple of marine grade hinges and time to find the correct place to position the locking bracket to which it closes with a nice alloy ring to it..ive not altered the frame and only the drill/screws are in the tail piece...it locks down as usual and opens like a boot lid [or a lockheed lightning air brake]..its nice and light and gives a couple of litres more in tailpiece volume without the origional seat base..its going to be a keeper..now for my alloy hugger..cheers

It`s nicely done alright, top job. Have you utilised a strip of alloy or steel under the original plastic seat at the point where the hinges locate and are bolted on?

thanks for all the feedback..the lower hinges are held with finethread bolts with washers and dome nuts in case i snag my wets in a downpour haste..i have also installed two height rubber blocks to the frame at the locking bracket to give the lid a solid closed feel..and. will make up an upper bum stop to cover the hinge scrivets..paint or acid wash the under surface and that will be that..will post the photos ..cheers

Ah ok I see now. Just thought you might experience the much weaker plastic cracking under the hinges / fasteners if it wasn`t braced up a tad.
It looks very nice, suits your paint scheme perfectly too.
That`s a good sized compressor you`ve got there and very secure windows in that workshop / garage too I see, wish I had something similar to work in.
Nobody would see much of me, between work, rallies, bike events and my bed, I would be in there!

the tank is the only part that i havent done ..cobba, really go for the black theme, and the tank is origional/ 96 , and would hate to do it any harm..ive got Kevs red tank in case of a big direction change...speaking of a big change..we have in OZ a pressure pack can with what ive known it to be as "kiwi chrome" as it was intended to be a ..spray over.. for rusted and cracked chrome bumpers..as its an oil based paint, i am interested to try it [clear over it after drying] as an aluminium look to the body panels....see how it goes..maybe a ww2 aircraft [carefully done] theme...similar to that ww2 merlin engined drag car in the USA..

AAHH sorry mate...must be a bit of dementia rubbing off from the clients at work... I thought you had a tuning fork yamaha badge there on the tank.. My mistake
