Anyone played with the suspension arm positioning?

A few weeks back I noticed there is the option to move the position of the suspension arms on the swingarm under the bike.

How does this affect the bike?
I guess it will raise or lower the seat height depending on which mounting points are used.

(I'm not at home at the moment so I can't remember how my own arms are mounted.)

i'm guessing you are talking about the extra hole in the bottom linkage.
Its not an extra mounting position for the dog bones.
See kayla for different length bones to raise or lower your bike.

What is that extra hole for? Or is it just a parts bin extra?

Maybe something left over from the casting process or drilled at the factory to jig up the casting for the final machining / profiling.

It sure appears identical to the front mounting point to me!

My suspension arms are attached at the front mounting point on the swingarm.
I reckon (assuming the bolt/arms fit) using the back mount would raise the back end of the bike and quicken the steering.

I should have tried it when I had the rear suspension apart a month or so ago just to satisfy my curiousity.

The TRX was introduced 1995. If it had been a good mod, surely people would have noticed and told others? I'd advice you not to try it, the suspension ratio will change and so on. If you want quicker steering drop the front, and if that's not enough, raise the rear with dogbones (which also will change the suspension ratio BTW, but not to the same extent)

BTW if you drop out the shock, by putting the required bolt/piece of steel rod thru this extra hole, it holds the back end.
you might want to wrap the rod/bolt in something like garden hose where it will sit over the bellcrank.

I have no intention of changing anything on the bike, it handles just fine like it is! After all, it's just a roadbike.
I was just asking the question about the spare mounting point, that's all!

BTW, I'm a former roadracer, I know a bit about frame geometry changes. I was being polite/modest when originally asking how it will affect the bike.
Clearly it will raise the seat height, increase rake and reduce trail. This will "quicken" the steering of the bike and make it more prone to headshake etc. etc. etc.

So it appears that no-one has tried it. At least not anyone registered in this forum. This surprises me.

Greg, apoligize if i offended you, not meant like that. What i wanted to point is, this mod would not only change bike geometry, but also the suspension linkage ratio. Unless this is awanted effect, then it's far easier to use shorter dogbones, if increased rideheight is the goal. Changing the linkage ratio is beyond me, and i guess most of us here.

I did ask a mechanic mate many moons ago about the spare holes and if they were an alternate mount for the suspension. He reckoned they were used on another model as center stand mounts. TRX being a parts bin bike, that sounded like a plausible idea.

Can you or yor "mechanic mate" tell me on what model a center stand mounted on those "spare holes" was realized?

Funny that i was thinkin down the same lines too Kev.. as the TRX is a MONGEUL bike so that component could be from another series or model. Didn't think about a centrestand tho just machined another hole to suit the purpose maybe.
