can anyone help me please? my trx has been treated to some anodising by a previous owner with very dubious taste, i badly need to remove it does anyone know of a chemical which will remove it. i have read on some websites that oven cleaner will do the job but i have tried it and it doesnt, any ideas anyone please i dont fancy scraping it off

Anything caustic will suck it out

Mr Muscle is a good oven cleaner...nice and caustic...

What is it you want to remove it from?

I went through a whole load of trial and error getting it off the swing arm of my bike before polishing it but found the best solution was oven cleaner......however there is a bit of a method to it. For it to work you need to heat up the part fairing hot......like oven temperature, 200degrees C.

So if is a small part put it in the oven

If you cant fit it in the over (which I couldn't with the swing arm) you can use a blow torch to heat it.

So work in small sections, heat good and hot with the flame, spray on the over cleaner, move to the next section, heat spray and so on until the whole thing is covered.

Then rinse of all theover cleaner with water

At this stage the prat should have turned all black. The oven cleaner causes the aluminum to oxidise quicky which lifts the anadise layer.

Now all you need to do is sand it all back with wet p600.........if you are polishing it then move on to p1200 or p1500 and then buff

You might need to repeat the heating and spraying a few times to get it all black and it does need to be hot.

This is how my swing arm turned out:

BEING REALLY CAREFUL NOTTO HEAT UP THE MATERIAL SO IT LOSES ITS TEMPER AND ALL THE WELDS BECOME BRITTLE.

thanks the anodising is on the crancase covers so i dont fancy heating them up i suppose i will have to man up and have a go wish me luck thank you
