Hi all, ive just fitted up a spare set of yzf 750 tripples to a trx 850 steering stem..this would be the easiest way to go.
Firstly ive cut the yzf steering stem just above the yolk upper surface...then carefully cut with the hacksaw [fit the blade through the hole and reassemble]...through the stem down close to the alloy yolk..stop a little short..the wedge youve made will snap out easilly.
Then remove the stem section...there you go, a yzf lower yolk ready for the trx stem.
Now, cut and do the same to the trx lower yolk...seriosly..what are you going to do with the empty lower anyway, and being in two pieces, its twice the ammo for the neighbours cat ..
Eventually you will have the two hopefully correct pieces to be off to the mechanics bearing press, its a 2 minit job, so the cost shouldnt be too much.
End result is ready to go on the rex.....no fuss..the new tapered steering head bearings for the trx are the must have too.
The yzf tubes i have found sit flush to the top of the upper tripple to give the same height as the old system..you still have the speedo drive and will have the larger 320mm discs while your blue spots will fit given the lower trim out.

If you find the lower bearing race,..just wedge a sharp ..but slightly rusty wood chisel in to pry the two apart

Just got back from my dear bucket of water mekanik how pressd the stem the wrong way out of the yzf lower yoke, so now i have to get a new yolk!

I was actually thinkig of doing something in this style, do you think its possible to drive the stem in whit a sledge?

so which is the correct way??? pushing from the top of the stem down and out the bottom of the tree or from the bottom of the tree up towards the top tree???

From the top, its a steel locking ring in the bottom of the stem.

Dont know if its possible to remove the lockring, if you can i guess its dosnt matter.

The circlip is in the bottom..see the photos, so the removal of the steering stem has to be downward...when i did my first yzf set,the pressure gauge went to 6 metric ton before it went BANG and released....not too keen on that on the top of the stem and where the threads are...pressing in was only 2 ton....super sweet and pushing up into the yzf yolk, and from the bottom of the stem...
The way ive suggested is better as the left over pieces wont be used anymore anyway and there is absolutley no stress on the stem..eg nothing to go wrong., and ALL the photos can be done at home except fot the pressing in, any mechanic can do that..just make sure you give it to them half fitted..the right way up.
Was thinking to freeze the stem overnight and then set the yolk in the oven..but then i thought about having to explain it to the wife...............NAH !

having a go at this myself already got the stem out of the yzf yoke just got to strip the front end off my trx get the stem out of the yoke have it pressed in , would this not pull in by fitting to the frame and doing it back up

Given the amount of force you could end up stripping the thread and or lunching the needle bearings. An engineering shop will probably be happy to press it in for a couple of quid

I've just pressed the stem out of a YZF yoke , lengthened it and pressed it back in. I was glad I took it into work and did it in the press, you may do it with sticking the stem in the freezer overnight and putting the yoke in the oven to heat it up, but I don't think it will pull up with the adjusters.

had to do the same when putting the bottom bearing race onto the shaft, chill the bottom tripple tree and stem and heat the race and quickly press it onto the stem
