fuel tap

Hi all i need a bit of help I sent away for a fuel tap repair kit the item arrived similar in appearance nowhere near the right size my question is did yamaha stick with the one design for the bike or did they do more than one ?

As far as I know there was just the one tap, which bit isn't the right size? Was it the normal TourMax kit?

Someone posted up a fuel tap mod around a year ago that allows you to simply modify the std tap to work like a simple one /reserve/off tap.. Maybe worth a look into and was a couple $ for a few simple parts and 5minutes work.

It looks alright to me in that picture, is the 3 hole piece smaller than the O ring? Also, you probably should've bought a kit with the diaphragm, that's the part that outright fails most of the time.. In my tap the three holed piece was brittle and had to be broken out though, it did weep a bit.

I have been told that you want the Tourmax FCK-44 kit. This one is not listed for the TRX, but for XJR1200/1300 (*) and includes the diaphragm.
Not tested by myself, but I will in time.
If I look for Tourmax and TRX, I find the FCK-22 kit, without the diaphragm.

That also works of course, but I like the idea of the fuel being cut off when engine is not running. Otherwise you eniterly rely on the float (or how is it called in english) in the carb's. With another bike this thing failed once, which resulted in a carter filled with fuel and oil.

thanks again trouble is the illustration gives no idea of size and it is about half the diameter the diaphragm seems ok the reason i decided to change the seals is cos i ran out of fuel completely and the tap was on normal not reserve happened twice
