fuel tap kit

Hi guys. The fuel tap on my 96 trx is leaking a few drops. Are the tourmax kits on ebay any good? Tried ringing the local Yamaha dealer but all he wanted to do was sell me a new tap for $190 ! Cheers Mark

Often seen a small dribble from the tap when I've had the tank off Mark..
Worries me too, however apart from the new kits available like the ones on e-bay and all..I opened the fuel tap backing,..and found some slight sludge or sediment on the tank side of the small O ring that actually stops the fuel flow.
Must have built up over time and small enough to be inside the plastic filter tower .
A good clean and a new O ring ..and all seems to be sweet
....so far !

If you want a tourmax kit, you need the FCK44.

I have fitted a TourMax kit and while it is definitely better than the raging torrent I had before it still dribbles a bit. It did stop the side of the tap with the knob on it from always being wet, though.

Is this a direct bolt on ? Being a bit of a tight-arse I am always looking to save a buck or two. Cheers Mark

you just need to make sure the bolt hole spacing is correct and the diameter of the outlet match what you have on your bike and then just remove the old and replace with new

do an ebay search for "Yamaha fuel tap"

it is a right hand outlet

I don't have the measurements to hand so you will need to confirm with your own

If you are going to use such an old-fashioned fuel tap, you have to do something with the vacuum hose too; the tube from one of the inlets to the tap.

yep, I just blanked it off with a 5mm bolt, that way it is still easy to get at for balancing carbs

otherwise you could blank it at the intate manifold

slightly O.T.

.....but I want to mention here that the fuel tap did not close with engine stop, so it didnt close at all, a little awkward. Common failure?
I emptied the fuel tank by driving 250 KMS

with this = my son 's bike, we unscrewed the vacuum system, stretching the very weak spring until 4 cms,

, checked with mouth suction [very small effort needed] & now it opens and closes again!
Pay attention in dismantling not to tear the diaphragms.
