Too much fuel consumption..lowering needles?

I know there is written alot about this....my son wont go to the different carb option.
I know that the needle jet is suspect...on inspection looked new and not ovalized [torch inspection], only 27.000 kms
The bike runs great though.

- Lowering the needle one notch is worth a try?
- We gave the air screw 2.5 turns. Still more?
- Fuel level I did not check...with those awkward carbs....
- airbox is standard, filter is clean
-main jet is + 4 [I forgot the absolute value, 156??] but again the mufflers are as used for ducati ss 900, more open, nice heavy sound.

She needs a minimum of choke to start, 10 seconds and she runs without....that is too little.

I doubt there's any reason to go with a larger main jet...

What is the fuel consumption & is there any problems at any throttle positions?

Mains you have are too big.
Try smaller mains with middle clip 2.5-3 turns and a K&N filter.

As the guys have mentioned and try mains at 142.5.
Standard motor and airbox with open cans won't need big jets.
I run 145's but that is with modified carbs, modified airbox, k&n and open cans.
Main jets above 150 are never gonna help fuel consumption.

When I run the bike in stage 3 set up with pod filters and no airbox I run 170 mains, and I won't even see 200km out of a tank.

I missed them, because I bought an R 60/6 in a sorry state...

Today we lowered the needles, and we will buy the smaller main jets, see if it helps.
Main jets are now 144, we looked it up, nice we wrote it down somewhere, at first I wrote 156 but that is nonsense

Consumption is 14 km /liter, British is 40 mls/gallon, 50 miles should be possible with Dutch speed limits & expensive speeding tickets


We made a spin together, the BMW R 60/6 from 1974 [lots of funny noises] and the TRX. An odd couple!
Bike looked a bit more nervous, but a tad stronger below 3500 RPM, there was some noise, not pinging, sort of a piston slap sound, only at full throttle. Just the power I suppose, sounds are difficult..
And giving full throttle at 3500 is not a very good idea, 4-5000 sounds better
Starting; no choke needed [it is now summer over here] and no evidence of lean-ness from cold!
No spitback in the carbs.

So...driving and measuring.
