M/C size on Brembo callipers

Post by cobbadiggabuddyblooo » Thu Nov 20, 2014 8:33 am

Can anyone please confirm what size front master cylinder is used in conjunction with the Brembo front callipers that come fitted to the Japanese imports??

Hi Brian, my import has the 5/8 MC and the brakes are great, heaps of feel and feedback.

Cool bananas. There has been a lot of positive feedback with the Japanese import Brembo vs the std Trx sumoto's . But I just couldn't confirm a MC diameter on the search.

One point Max made around 2006 I found made the point about the softer casting of the Sumoto's calliper and the actual calliper flex causing the fade issues in racing.
I wonder how the piston size compares between the Brembo vs the blue spots calliper???

The blue spot improvement has been put down to the fact they are a single casting of the block instead of two bolted together as per standard sumotos or brembos by some...

Cheers Trixy,
Just researching options on what to do brake wise on the bike.
320 mm with adaptor but I can see quality 298mm discs/ spot callipers/ quality pad set up will give plenty of braking .

For a time I ran a Brembo 19/20 m/c with Japanese spec Brembo calipers Cobba, sensational performance.
Great power and sooooo much feel through the lever.
It must be true, I read it on the internet.

Yes I was reading your input on a post when you had recently purchased a 2nd TRX and noticed you online and hoped you'd add your 10c worth Stu.
So how did the Brembo calliper stack up against the blue/gold spot calliper stu???

This is probably true, I have a radial 11/16 Nissin unit on mine and when all 8 brake pistons are moving freely (which isn't always..) there is a lot of free play at the lever. More than enough braking is available though and indeed it does have great feel, though it was pretty good with the standard 5/8 master cylinder too until the seals gave up.
'95 4NX with K&N filter, Motad Venom cans, YSS PD valves, Ohlins fork springs, 530 C+S, Green CDI, 11/16 radial master cylinder, +30mm jack up dog bones. Enjoyable money pit.

Fairly similar from memory, maybe a tad more feel with the Brembo caliper. But to be fair that could also come down to the pad compound I was using at the time.

I'd be looking at which diameter brake disc is to be used first.
Then look to the caliper / master suited compared to the mass to be braked.
Often thought to the brembos as well....specially on my 320 discs.

That decision has already been made Alex.
With close to 20kg shed from the TRX (100kg/90 kg bias with a full tank) currently up from 48.4% std to 55% on the front end, lighter weight wheels allowing more advantages of later braking and having a bike that will be only geared for 220-230kph peak, I can see more advantages in having a quality 298mm disc with quality callipers, pads and M/C.
It's not a modern day R1 and still only a TRX and weigh up the pro's and cons, I'm sure I can get the std disc size to perform beautifully by keeping heat, gas and bite in check to eliminate any fade issues.
The larger discs and adaptor plates will only add further weight and rolling mass and defeat the purpose on what I've set out to achieve.

Cobba

As u know I have radial brakes-2006 R6. Recently I have installed a new 19 mm radial master cylinder, Nissin gsx r 1000. This m/c is similar to the s1000rr. I have ebc pads installed too. Together the feel has increased dramatically. Braking is twice as good over the standard 5/8 m/c.

Cheers Mate,
I just have to check clearance against the fairing frame first so I need a couple of measurements to check things out.
Next chance we get to catch up I will sus your set up out and see where the wind takes us.
How was your ride last Sunday??

Makes sense, from my research the radial/non radial Goldspots use the same pistons, hence I'm using the Radial R1 M/C on my non radial Goldspots

Here's a pic in the mean time. Only added the asv lever this arvo. Gives more feel now as the asv f3 is of oe thickness and short. Had a pazzo knock off from china before. Asv gives 180 clicks of adjustment. Pazzo has 6.

The mc touches the carbon surround by 3-4 mm. I will grind that bit off the carbon surround and it ll be sweet:). Was interested in the Brembo rcs 19 mm but it comes with no switch. Plus it costs a bomb! [-(
