170 back tyre

Anyone fitted a 170 back tyre on the standard trx back wheel, need a new set of tyres, and Demon tweeks are doing Michelin pilot power sets 170 60 with 120 60 for £139, but would like to know if the 170 size is ok before buying.

Had no issues at all and i've ran a few different varietys over the years and they fit perfectly on a 5" rim.

Great if your going to use all the tyre but if just around towner and the odd spirited riding, a 160 is all that is needed. I'd ask for a 70 series on the front as you will benifit more .

You will find it will turn in a little faster, feels a bit like dropping in on corners using a 60 series, but due to the profile characteristics, you loose a little edge grip with not quite as much contact patch .
The 70 series gives you better feedback especially as speed is increased but is a little slower turn in so overall feels a little more stable.

An extra 10% aspect ratio be now 70% of tyre width not 60% means you can compensate with the extra height by dropping the forks through the trees by 10-12mm.
With aspect ratios you rear 170/60 will be a little taller too so this in itself will quicken the steering again by a minor amount.
I found it to be a really good balance. 120/70 & 170/60

I've been running 120/70 front and 170/60 for years.
Better tyre choices and better handling in my opinion.
Never had an issue and my TRX trackie will be wearing the same.

I agree, pilot powers do a 170 and found great wear and good feedback from the tyres themselves and never gave me any grief and good all round choice for the road.
Was running dunlops on trackdays and the 170 GPA rear would start to let go by the end of each 15min session but again would give good feedback and plenty of warning of its intentions.

Thanks for all the info guy's, that's made my choice for me, i checked Demon tweeks web site, and they do these in the 120 70 front and 170 60 rear, also nice to hear they handle well and have good wear.
Good to hear it will turn in a little quicker, always found it a little heavy and slow turning in, but just put that down to racing cycles for many years on 19mm tyres.

60 profile tyres are generally fitted to learner bikes etc, as they track better and have a more high speed stability, the down side of a 60 profile is the bike will want to sit up more and is slower to lean.

70 profile will allow for a faster response in corners and quick to lean, down side high speed stability, the bike will track the road, BUT this is only minor and most people will never feel it or notice the difference.

When i changed the from a 60 to a 70 the dynamics of the bike changed dramatically and the bike became alive and spirited
