USB charging gizmos

What I know about electricity could be written on the back of a stamp and I want to buy something similar to of these:

Are they supposed to be wired directly to the battery? Is there anything else I should be aware of?

Straight to the battery , the second link is the better ,..as it has the positive and earth already in place with the fuse receiver in the line.

Normally straight to the battery, but if the socket end has an internal LED like the first link seems to, then you'd be best to have an on/off switch in there as well.

Not sure whats available in Oz, but a mate got one from The Adventure Bike shop in the UK which has an integral on/off switch. I am also not clever with electrical stuff so when i wired in my father in laws sat nav to my wifes bike the usb port is permanently lit up. I just resorted to removing the fuse when not in use so it didn't drain the battery.

I ended up ordering the item in the second link so I'll let you know if after I've wired it up the horn sounds when I indicate...

I fitted a unit identical to this one yesterday but in black. When I checked eBay these shiny ones weren't available:

I picked it for three reasons...
a) I'm lazy
b) it has an on/off switch
c) it has an in-line fuse

Positioning it wasn't that difficult either. I have an Oxford tank bag which has a waterproof hole in the front so a charging cable can be poked through to connect to either a 'phone or a satnav device which can sit under a clear cover at the top of the bag.
I thought about a few different locations but ended up just screwing the clamp that the unit ships with, minus the spacers, onto a frame strut. I had to use a bit of rubber from a roll of adhesive rubber weather-proofing to make it fit and a couple of zip-ties for the cabling, and Bob's your auntie's lover.
