grinding wurrp sound when moving.

Hi guys

Was wondering if I could get some suggestions on a grinding "wurrp wurrp wurrp" sound I get while in motion, sound and feeling increases in frequency with speed.

I was thinking maybe bearings, or chain and sprockets or my biggest suspect at the moment a sticky caliper or shitty disks.

I bought this bike last year, hadn't ridden it much until few months ago and noticed the sound and feel as noted above.

When slowing there is a sort of grind noise and a couple small clunks that sound/feel like they're coming from the tyre, not sure which.

At speed the wurrp wurrp sound increases in frequency and decreases in frequency as I am slowing or going slowly.

It's a 96, 50k on clock, in overall really nice knick. I have a few trx's, trying to find the time to strip them all one by one and fix up, but I need one for daily commute and this is her so I have to try and get to the bottom of this sound and was hoping some of you might know what I'm on about or where to look first - what order of things to eliminate.

To start off with, pull the bike over on the side stand and spin the back wheel, see if chain is sticking at a tight point.
After a ride check one or both discs are getting really hot. Should tell you if you have binding caliper or warped disc. also check for blueing on the disc if overheating.

Yep, chain is the main suspect, discs n calipers less likely.

My speedo cable made an annoying scraping noise too.. Until I replaced it. Worth a look.

Gentlemen, thank you for the replies, appreciate it heaps.

I think both areas are patchy, the chain I think has stetched parts in it, uneven wear, and being a twin probably pulls the chain out more than a 4 banger. It seemed mega tight and tighter still after a ride this morning, I sat equal weight as myself on it (shorter bloke but wider and same weight lol) and I adjusted, seemed the cantor was a little off and the chain too tight, gave it some slack, definitely not as noisy but the movement does seem uneven so I suspect it is stretched out unevenly, new chain and sprockets safest bet at this stage I gather.

Brake calipers might be sticky too as you say Silver. I have a spare speedo cable which I might pop on too.

Will let you know how I get on.

I have 1.5 bikes worth of parts, and another spare engine with a defunct cam and another cam to replace in (after machinig most likely - not checked tolerances) I'm looking for a cheap 10ft container to turn into a garage, bloody things cost more than a 20 footer, might buy that and cut it in half if anyone want the other half for a good price minus the doors.

Make sure you keep a bit of slack in the new chain, the gearchange/ Snatchiness will suffer with a tight chain. also wears the output shaft.

I'm worried that might already be the case? Hope not. New chain on way from UK, cheaper than can be had here in Ripstralia...

First of, sorry for the late update, life just got away from me...
I'd like to thank you guys for all the help. In the end it was the chain, I put a DID and new sprockets and all good.
