linkage relay arm play

Post by plumber02 » Sun Mar 27, 2016 5:04 pm

hi lads i'm new here so hello to all from EIRE , i've had my trx only2 weeks now and the first job i did was replace all linkage bearings because i felt play on where the arm meets the frame , all yamaha genuine parts , stuck it all back together an i've still got play in the same pivot point , so with wheel up and swing arm pulled up n down with my finger on that point i can feel movement , not as much - but play none the least , i've tried a shim between the inner race and frame mounts, bigger washer outside on bolt , all i'm looking at now is - is the tolerance between the bolt shank and inner race I.D out of spec - its .017MM , anyone have this prob ,

Yep, pain in the arse hey. I put in all new genuine bolts, bearings and sleeves and still have the problem too. The tollerence between the bolt and the sleeve is enough to drive a truck through.
Bit of research and looks like Yamaha are well noted for their sloppy fit in the relay arm dept from new.

at least i'm not alone , so do you have that bit of movement up n down on the swing arm so all the time ? will have to admit though that initally the bolt wouldn't go through at all , i was cursing the supplier until i noticed that the races on either end were different sizes , same bearings but bolt shanks were different ???? why yamaha why also why do they put that shoulder in the center of the arm for the 2 bearings , i've got 3 wr's and i'd change linkage bearings every year or so and no shoulder - just press all the way through ,

I replaced the swing arm pivot pin, the long centre bush and bearings and all is good there with no movement.
I just have movement between the bushes and bolts in the relay arm.
