Running windows7 on the laptop and the latest update was installed 2 days ago and since turning off the computer after the installation , the dammed thing won't boot up..
I feel there is a bit of skullduggery going on here as I've been bombarded over the last few months to download Windows 10.
Murphey's law as I just plugged everything back into the main loom on the bike and was about to install a new ignition map.
Any one else came across similar issues on their PC????

Upgrade to Windows 10 and get it over and done with.
It is better than 7.

I'm pretty sure IGNITECH is good for xp, vista and Windows 7.
I'll double check with Jiřà at IGNITECH to be 100% sure.
Windows 10 apparently doesn't allow you to turn off auto updates .
Advice given was to turn off updates and wait a couple of weeks till some other suckers bear all the problems till Windows fix the update then install them.
Finally got it booted up and restored back before update was installed and turned off the auto update.
I think I'll dedicate the HP laptop purely for the ignition now as it's 8 yrs old.

I ran the Ignitech program from Win 10 while I was in Melbourne and it worked perfectly.

Take a breath when you upgrade to WIN 10 - you might, like me, have a hard time finding anything ever again! Mind you I am deep in IT including Windows config and Microsoft increasingly discourages 'customers' putting their hands up skirts where mine like to go
Straight forward start menu on Win7 disappears and you have to hunt for programs in search and so on...
Good idea on semi-retiring the ancient laptop. If you want to keep it a while longer I suggest replace (clone) the hard drive as that wearing out is what usually ultimately kills older laptops. At eight years your hard drive bit-rot is (digital arthritis?) is building up.

Thanks for the input Highlander,
Bits n bytes to me means going to a tapas ... So all my computer skills are learnt on the run..
Hard drive died a couple of weeks before the extended warranty ran out on the laptop at 5 yrs so the new hard drive is only 3 yrs old so judging by the first death and revival good chance it will be on its last legs in the not to distant future.
Just got confirmation from IGNITECH that the ignition will run with any Windows from xp onwards which backs up What Dickie said.
Just for the record...
I noticed a Windows looking emblem on the keyboard so I just held that down when I hit the start button and vroom, that's how I got in.
Maybe it's like a choke with the cold weather now looming with Winter just around the corner...

Windows key got you in? Never heard of that one!
Usually if something is stuffed and PC won't start hold the F8 key and start it - boots into 'safe' mode

which can recover from a dodgy software install or virus in many cases. Kind of like resetting your Ignitech to default timings

Yes. I realised I must of jagged that one but it opened and allowed me to install the revised ignition map and go to a previous restore point on the laptop.
Worked fine the following day but not for to long..
But it's doing it's trick again and Even with F8 pushed down it still gives me a blank screen and just 2 lights flashing on the keyboard.

A blank screen without even the manufacturer's logo and flicker of white text?
That means even the BIOS is not loading and indicates a hardware problem or not enough juice to power it up. Can you boot into BIOS? Hold/tap F2 when you power on.
Hardware problems can be anything, but unless it's a hard drive it's probably going in the bin because repairs are often not cost effective over the cost of a basic new one.
A memory stick could be goosed but it may be hard to find replacements. If your BIOS runs you may have access to a memory test in there.
If it's a Motherboard problem it's now a brick. Poor battery connection can also be a clarion call to the gremlins.
Dust build up can cause heat issues and send electrolytic capacitors running off the cliff which is a magnifying glass and soldering iron repair job.
You could try replacing the CMOS battery for a few pennies - you'll find a small cell battery inside on the motherboard, CR2032 or similar.
Basically if you know someone IT savvy, give them an hour or two fiddle time with it.

Ended up digging an old T42 IBM laptop that's been gathering dust for the past 4 years.I put it in rescue and recovery , cleared it and reloaded everything and up n running again on XP for my ignition programming.
Not bad for a 12yr old workhorse.
Just the screen is shattered so I have to use a monitor...

Actually I have just bought a docking station for an old laptop I have my workshop manuals, PowerCommander software etc on. Runs on XP as I want the 32 bit for running EEPROM reader software and I need the RS232 port to connect!
Don't chuck the old stuff out as you may never know when you want it

Ahaaa, now I understood that. Used lots of EPROMS in flow measurement devices I used to be involved in while working for Spirtx-Sarco.
