Rattle

Post by TRX'er » Thu Jul 05, 2007 1:26 pm

I have a strange rattling/ticking sound coming from around the cam chain but i had the camchain checked and was fine also all the blades were there?
anyone got any ideas or is this a normal sound?
u can hear it most when letting off the throttle and rolling to a stop.
It stops when u pull the clutch in to.
anyone have any ideas?
thanks
Bob

If it stops when you pull the clutch, you can forget about the cam chain. Check the clutch instead, something might be loose or broken. Just like a Duc

But the noise is comin from round the cam chain?
how did an akra cure it?
Also there is an exhaust stud missing, could it be something blowing from there?

The Akra cured it cos I can no longer hear it. :D

Seriously - mine makes a similar rattling noise, which disappears when I pull the clutch in. Sounds cam chainy when I rev it. Mine doesn't seem to use any oil.

A blowing exhaust, particularly at the head, doesn't sound like a rattle. More like an unsilenced engine.......if you think it's blowing there stick your hand round the headers when it's running - you'll feel the blow.

ya some drink oil, mine (TDM) guzzles alot of oil especially on long runs. probably time to have the head overhauled.

Yamaha does not regard a litre per 1000 miles as excessive

Keep it topped up and there's no problem.

More likley to be the rings than a problem at the head

A more serious attempt to answer...

I think mine is quiter when the clutch is being pulled in. It's at least not something I worry about, either it's not soo loud, or I have gotten used to it. Sounds are very hard to comment on, each to his own sort of...

Trxer,
Mine does the same thing. Tightened the cam chain tensioner, had the cover off as well as the clutch cover can't see anything broken or out of the ordinary. Putting it back together tomorrow so hopefully the noise will miraculously disappear. We can live in hope anyway.

Has your noise gone or is it still making it.
