Ive lost all me drive!!!!

Post by billy budge » Sat Jul 28, 2007 5:56 pm

Howdy doody to you all,

Im going mental in my garage trying to solve this puzzle and have finally admitted defeat and i need your expert opinions please.

Just put in the divvy600 clutch cable i bought as the extended one i had in was mahoosive, set it up as close as i could to what the original trx cable was at. Also bear in mind that a while back i had the casings off to have them polished but i put them back 100% identical to how they came apart.

Anyhoo i get all clobbered up to go for a quick test run, fire her up, pull clutch in (feels slightly heavy), select first, feed lever out waiting for the bite...and out...and out... the lever is fully out before i know it and the bike hasnt moved!!!! Theres no noise from the engine or meshing/grinding noises etc from the clutch either.
Could this come from just a incorrectly set up clutch cable or is there a bigger picture.
Help would be greatly appreciated as im gagging to get out, cheers.

I'll have a look at it for a pair of forks.......

sounds like cable adjustment, how heavy is the clutch?

did you have the clutch apart?

Yeah good try pal!!

You know your pulling the lever in thats for sure, but compared to other clutches i cant say if its ott heavy or not. Dont think its been that heavy before, fitted short crg levers but that shouldnt affect things. Will have to have a play i suppose.

Not had the clutch apart only removed the cover and the operating mechanism shaft but that was installed spot on.

In all honesty ive lost all motivation and really dont know what it could or could not be and im sure its something daft but all i really wanna do is ride the thing now

You are a gentleman martin and if you really want to give up your sunday morning then a second opinion from a trxer would be great, dont let it interfere with church though eh

Morning is better for me if thats ok, i will defrost the sausages then!!

:D Can you put the original cable back on to try, would then tell you if its the cable or the clutch gubbins.

Stick it up on a paddock stand, find a tool to work the lever (on the engine, not on the bars) with, and have a fiddle: in gear, clutch in, clutch out etc

See what works and what doesn't: should sort out if its the cable or the internal mechanism.

Dave.

If it's not something daft like cable adjustment then it's got to be something to do with the clutch actuating mechanism. If Martin's ball had fallen out you'd have drive that you couldn't disengage (I think!)

Martin - you want forks?

Greg - I am helping Mr Budge empty his garage of forks this very day (he's just down the road from me) - but thanks....and having a gawp at his clutch too.

You may well be right about my ball. We shall see.

You will be pleased to hear that all is well and ive been out on the rex this afternoon and had a ball :D

Many thanks to mr Young who popped round and quickly found what i had missed, i had put the mechanism operating lever on the spline by about 10mm out of alignment. So even though the lever was working when the clutch lever was pulled in and out, it was not quite enough to engage/disengage the clutch. After 15 mins of jiggery pokery with the circlip and cable all was sorted, so i will hopefully see you all at the Avebury meetup.

Out of interest what sort of temps does your water temp guage read on a day like today? It was early to mid 20 degrees here, i was out for about 30 mins and not ragging the arse off of it and it read about 80 degrees.
Thats the first time its been run for about 6 months so cant remember what the norm is. Dont know if the different temp sender unit ive fitted would make things run abit hotter or not??
I fitted a mini chrome guage that would only run with its own sender unit, dont know if im being paranoid but the engine and water pipes seemed quite hot. The fan never kicked in so i suppose thats something!!

:D This thread has been done before, I think the fan kicks in just over the 100 degrees mark, but mine only gets to 65 when moving.
