Sorry to hear of your probs.

There's a guy selling 2 engines. The problem is he's in ITALY!
When I enquired about Courier collection he said he'd shipped a Laverda engine from the UK last year and it cost about 180 EUROS in total.

engine 1 has a gearbox prob - 3rd & 4th cogs damaged, but you probably have the spares to fix?
500 EUROS with replacement gearbox, possibly less without????

engine 2 - I'll let him describe:
"A full engine, with flowed head, JE878 piston, running around 5000 km, never been in race track"
900 EUROS

Not sure what the exchange rate is but might be worthwhile considering the tat which usually shows up on the 'bay.......[/b]

i think breaking might be the way to go. i totted it up today and I reckon I've got more in parts than the bike will ever fetch as a complete bike, engine or no engine.

I really hope you find a way to get it fixed. After all that work you did to it... Also, please resubmit it for the TRX of the Month thing. Peder Rs won out this month but honestly, even though I don't really care for the street fighter thing yours had caught my eye. Really liked the ammo bunker thing too!

...what makes a TRX a TRX?

Three things: Motor, Frame, Bodywork.

Change the motor: it's not a TRX.

Change the frame: Hmm, dubious (Copies of original frame like n850's are fine, I'm talking alloy beam type)

Change the bodywork; still a TRX AS LONG AS tank is thee same, and it usually is.

Changing or upgrading forks, wheels, swingarm, bars, or adding little 'bling' bits and bobs don't make any difference.

I think the 'heart' of a TRX is the motor/frame/tank. This is what makes it and keeps it as a TRX.

Lets face it, a bog standard TRX is a bit ugly in places and can be improved. Look at the 17 bikes at Avebury: all were different.

That's the beauty of the bike: it can be fiddled with/tuned/upgraded etc pretty easy to make it individual and better.

Dave.
Phatso, phor phuck's sake rebuild the phucker - you know you'll be phucking sorry iph you don't... There are phew enough bikes with individuality - dare I say 'character' - around these days, a TRX is one oph those, and yours is particularly special.

I'm with Greg on this dude. The bike is too nice to part with, just be patient and put it up the back until a motor pops up. Then buil the hell out of it to make sure it is the goods. I know from the past that these sorts of toys are genuinely missed down the track. Unless you have an even better project in mind?

I know how you feel but you have to rebuild it - too much time and effort to break it.

Just get on every motorbike site you can find and contact every breaker asking for a TDM or TRX lump and something will turn up.

:D I'm with those above, put a dust sheet over it, work some overtime and pester the bike breakers to get a new engine, and hopefully we will see it reborn next year.

OR.....buy another whole one (seen 'em go for as little as £900) take the engine out and stick it in yours, then flog on the rest and plus your blown motor for bits/spares

You'll get all your money back and maybe make a bob or two and have your TRX up and running like it should be ... if you can be bothered with the taking apart/flogging on ebay ball-ache.

Dave.
