You'll get all your money back and maybe make a bob or two and have your TRX up and running like it should be ... if you can be bothered with the taking apart/flogging on ebay ball-ache.
Dave.
thats a good idea, you obviously have the mechanical know how to do that kinda thing.
i'm with max on the not normally liking streetfighters, but i can appreciate anything that has been done nicely and the attention to detail you have is excellent.

dont hate me.. But i have a spare motor.. But i live in australia !
sounds silly, but
http://www.findapart.com.au is a GREAT place to search for parts on bikes / cars / boats / etc.. it has like 500 wreckers australia wide..
I ended up getting my TRX motor from "liverpool wreckers" in queensland i think it was.. When i talked to em on the phone to organise payment / postage details, the dude was british !.. im sure he would send oversea's.. But at a cost im guessing.
I paid $1500 AUD for a complete engine (minus starter motor and carbies and ECU, but everything else was there, including most of the wiring)
Goodluck, and just be patient... good things come to those who wait..

I took the engine out last night.
Couldn't get the head off as I can't removed those stupid fecking exhaust clamps. No damge to the cams or cam bearings though, unlike the engine in my other TRX, which had picked up ont he inlet cam and wrecked the head.
Still undecided what to do with it. I was getting bored with it, but when I lifted the garage door up I couldn't help but think how good and so different it looked. So i might be tempted to fit another, I just dont have any spare cash to put into it, and I've already got far too much in it already which is why I was considering pulling out and cashing in the parts. It'd never fetch 2K, and I have nearly that in it over the last 2 years, let alone the orginal purchase price (of 2K 3 years ago).
any tips on removing the exhaust clamps? I've tried heat, looks like I'm going to have to dremel a slit down the side next.

Correct me if im wrong but i believe young martin had the same grief with his exhaust header clamps and had to take a dremmel to the buggers.
I was lucky enough to get away with it and with a fair bit of brute force and some ignorance they came off. I think martins exact descriptions on what he did are under the members rides section phatty.

Indeed so Billbo.................if your clamps and studs are corroded then it's unlikely to come apart cleanly.
Madivi suggested that vinegar could be used to acid wash the corrosion away - I never really tried it tbh.
Other options are to waggle the headers from the back end alot.

i used a crow bar and a rubber mallet
just put an old inner tube behind the bar so you dont damage the engine casing

Phatty,
Here you go, like I said, there's some cheap ones around..
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=006
..only £850 for a fully functioning TRX. Take the engine out, put it in yours, sell the rest for bits and you'll get all your money back.
Dave.

Phat you could try heat and quench. Heat them up red hot preferably and then quench with plenty of water.

In that first pic of the oil filter housing, is that the balancer gears in the background? I haven't been into that part of my engine yet.
Those headers make a nice engine stand.

just wait until i post up pics of the crank. it's toast!! there was 2mm of play in number 2 big end, the bearing was virtually non existent, the piston has been hitting the head it was so slack, and as a result has scratched the bore.
