Tonight I wired in the TPS (temporarily, still need to source some connectors).

When the TPS is wired in, the tacho appears to behave as would be expected (engine is not in a running state yet), and does not do the jump to 3,000 thing anymore.

Perhaps this mean that the TPS mod only works on the 4UN ECU and not the 4NX version.

Thanks all for your help and assistance. As soon as I can get hold of suitable connectors I'll wire in the TPS.

Regards

Steve

It sounds to me like your TPS is out of adjustment.

Have you tried adjusting it with the engine off but the ignition on until the tacho no longer jumps about?

Also, are you sure your TPS is functioning? Have you checked the resistance measurements correctly?

I have no IDa about your ECU but you'd think they would be the same and the TPOS mod would work.

My gearing is the standard TRX gearing. A bit high off road if I am honest but its ok if you ride fase :)

My gearing and a useful tool can be found at http://www.w124ce.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Gearing_V12.xls (right click Save As)

But you've no doubt seen me post that before.

The ECU goes into a diagnostic (or error)mode when the TPS is not fitted. In this mode the tacho stays at 0 for 3 seconds jumps to 3000 RPM for 2.5 seconds then displays current RPM for 3 seconds, and then drops back to 0 again.

Since the TPS wasn't connected to my ECU, the ECU has always been in diagnostic mode ever since i bought the bike. The tacho was wired into the coil leads when I got it, so the signal from the ECU's tacho sender was not connected to anything. I've rewired the bike to get the wiring tidied up and everything connected to ehere it should be. When i turned on the ignition for the first time to test the wiring the tacho was going up to 3000 etc.

I tried the TPS mod which should stop that from occurring, but it did not seem to work for me (I still accept that i may have wired it wrong). As a result I've been able to get information showing me how to wire in the TPS, which I wanted to do eventually anyway. All I need to do now is to source the appropriate plugs (the bits the wires are fitted into) to fit both the ECU and the TPS plugs and then I can rewire it correctly.

If I can'e get plugs that fit I'll just attached separate leads and use heat shrink and tape to hold them in plac e (ugly and really bad).

Mine was running 17/44 gearing which was way too tall for off-road. Bike needs to be above say 2,000 RPM to be really effective without lugging the motor and at this revs it was doing more than 25km/h, which on a grotty track that i've never seen before can be way too fast. I'm going back to 16/46 which should be the standard gearing, so I'm hoping for some improvement. I got that gearing program from the chaingang guy when I cantacted them about a new set.

The trx motor is the best motor for the super ten. I hunted around for a while to find one that had already been done, but in hindsight it would have been better if I'd done it myself.
