OKAY tried her today and she is firing up okay and ticks over roughly and cuts out when you try to apply throttle otherwise she will sit ticking over ( didnt smell rich today ) so i reckon she has eaten a plug or i have managed to drag some crap into the carbs when i did the air filter change

thanks to everyone for your help and ill have her back home tomorrow and have the plugs changed first then start in the pipes, carbs taps etc

can i get both plugs out without dropping the antifreeze?

Yes. Remove the bolts from the radiator brackets and push the rad away on the hoses. No need to drain any coolant at all.

WOW that was one of the main reasons i bought a rex too do something bit special with the paint but keep its original shape then decided when i got it 8 weeks ago i much prefered going out alot BUT now you have made me re-think

well i have got her home changed the plugs , checked all the pipes from the tank and carbs and all seem correct - checked the fuel ran from the tap when turned on to PP took the air box off, checked the slides were smooth and everything seems fine, squirted some carb cleaner in them and she fired up straight away put it all back together and she wont start.

eventually got it started and she runs like crap then any throttle and she cuts , battery is starting to die off very quickly now..

i was hoping to try sort it without taking the carbs off as looks bit complicated

anyway i can clean the carbs without removing them.?

Try removing the air filter from the airbox. Could be the filter is clogged or overoiled if it's a K&N type.

The only way to clean the carbs without removing them would be to put something like Silkolene PRO-FST in the fuel and get it through the carbs. It's a fuel stabiliser that also cleans the fuel system.

How did you get it to run with "everything disassembled"?

Filter is new one only a few weeks old and not really been anywhere it ran fine for weeks after i fitted it but yeah i think its a good idea and most worth a try - im concearned about the amount of times i have almost flattened the battery and wondered if that might be it but since she starts with no tank and box on.???

getting frustrated now as she is the oldest bike i have owned and the most troublesome yet i like her the most

did you try starting it on prime with it all back together? if not, then do so.

still no joy? could be the fuel pump.

did you put new plugs in?

yeah tried starting it on PRI both with the tank on and off and she still the same

yeah put new plugs in her today ( was hoping that would have been it

) but no ha ha

Interesting in that it started with a squirt of carb cleaner, I would also look into whether any fuel is actually getting into the engine.

WELL im getting there 11pm at night am i am still twiddling

i have managed to get her to run and rev BUT i have to remove the big fuel pipe that runs off the bottom of the fuel tap to what i believe is the pump.. i can get her to run for any lenght of time and start straight away BUT no fuel comes out of the pipe on tick over unless obviously switched to pri so why does it keep running with the pipe removed.?????? ( no rusty screw comments , unless you know where to get the right ones for replacment

Is air getting into the fuel tank? If it won't its hard for the fuel to run out.
Easy to check, just run engine with fuel filler cap open a little.
