Still not starting

tried the last two replies , removed the fuel tap checked the plastic gauze filter from the tank section-(ok) then stripped and checked the very thin but non split rubbers so not that , removed the pump and it seems to work ok ( blow on the intake only and suck on the outlet only ) , tried running it with the fuel cap open and still no joy again unless you spray carb cleaner in the carbs then she fires straight up, rechecked all the pipes off the airbox and tried it without the air filter in and no joy - only thing left now is a new battery as even though the optimate shows its fully charged it only last 5minutes before she is dead - i still think its a fuel problem for some reason but im gonna have to give in and let a garage re-check everthing i have already checked and charge me the earth to find the fault

drain the carbs, ditch the fuel in the tank and refill with new fuel

how can i drain the carbs ????
they look too complicated to be messing with i found a grub screw in each one with a philips grove in it but also a socket fit i assume its that ??

if so i drained one already ( left side sat on bike )but not the other? and is this a way i can chech if fuel is getting to the carbs turn it over with the screws out?
and how far should i drain the tank as im worried ill drag any crap out if i completely empty it- gonna try asap

on the bottom of the float bowls you will see a black pipe and next to that a screw undo the screw and the contents of the float bows will empty on the ground,,empty the contents of the fuel tank as well as i feel sure this is bad fuel put some nice new petrol in there and give it a go ,it may not run so good at first because you still will have some fuel in the pipework ,,you would be as well to try another battery as you will need to spin it over quite a bit to get the new petrol though ,,,let us know how you get on ,,and good luck

BUT can you point me in the direction of the float bowls are they the big black parts at the front of the carbs or the rear ( siting on the bike )

float bowls are on the bottom of the carbs. the floats are inside them. the floats maintain a fuel level in the float bowls from which the carbs suck the fuel through the jets.

from your reply you seem new to the world of motorcycling so i suggest you download the Manual from the downloads section and read it ,,all of it ..at least three times ,,this will give you some idea of we are taking about ,,please dont be offended by this, we all had to start somewhere ,,GET READING and good luck

Diagnosis over the internet isn't easy. I'd also guess on fuelling.

Make sure the rubber hoses from the top of the manifolds are not kinked, one should go to the fuelpump, the other to the fueltap.
Does it work if You leave the tank cap open? Clogged tank ventilation...
When it runs, does it run on both cylinders? "Apply" (spit, spray) some water on both headers, if one cylinder doens't run properly, it's header will be a lot colder.

im not offended ha ha there is no such thing as bad feedback

i am not new to bikes as such 7 years and 5 bikes no but i normally buy newer bikes so carbs are just new to me playing up as a whole , I have downloaded the manual but its i think its unreadable in print and i cant find the section im looking for, ( i should buy a haynes manual

) and the best bit i am by all accounts a fully qualified mechanic ha ha but i was specific to HGV diesel and cars again diesel , but i have not worked in a garage for 10 years

hans i have tried the ventilation check with the tank cap and its the same i have checked the hoses a fair few times and i have removed and stripped both the fuel tap and checked the diaphram and removed the fuel pump but still the same

i am just about to put on a new battery and some new fuel as i completely emptied the tank last night as suggested by steve last night

could be worse i was going to buty a BMWF800s

don't buy a Haynes - they're sh@t.

You need Adobe reader to read the manual here. Well worth the effort of sorting it out. Actually tells you about your bike.

ha ha sorry Martin as mentioned by your goodself first before steve

I just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone who has chipped in with suggestions over the week ( especially martn who helped the most )

i can now say i know trixxy well anyway im please to say its seems sorted i was just about to give up after i fitted a new battery today and along with new fuel , plugs etc she has eventually fired up and is running fine ( even had my wife dancing around with joy )
