newbie

Hi all. Newbie to your site, just bought a white and red trx850 import today, 1995, cost 1200 pounds. 42kms on clock.. but who knows, maybe more.. :? . I would say in very good condition. All services being carried out. Do you think this is a fair price? I also own a tdm900, but that's a different story! Just a couple of quick questions for now. Went to check the oil today when I got back after picking it up. Took cap off and there wasn't a dipstick attached to the cap. Maybe the last owner lost it, or am I missing something here? If it's missing, would anybody be able to tell me the length of the dipstick and at what measurement the oil should be? As I could make a makeshift dipstick up. Is it screwed right in or just lying on top? Only rode the bike up the motorway on the way home, but feels very comfortable. Shame when the roads are wet and greasy at the moment, as I've seen a couple of videos on the website and these things go. The tyres are avon azaro, 45 46s.. anyone got any input on these? When riding the motorway, shouldn't done this but I did, went over 8000 revs to hit the limiter and the bike didn't cut out.. jus seemed to want to still go. Is this common? Anyway I'm sure this bikes gonna be a lot of fun in the spring. Thanks for you help. Tony.

Oil level is checked in a sight glass on the side of the oil tank. There is no dipstick. Check it regularly like every time you ride it.

Sounds like your ignition may have been de-restricted, hence no rev limiter.

And welcome.

when checking oil, have the bike standing upright, not leaning against the side stand, should be easy to spot.. Same side as the oil filler hole, just a bit behind it.. it should be in the middle of the glass.. and thats your limits, if you cant see it, top it up slightly, and if its completely covered, drain a little out.

Modding the speedo to cut out the rev limiter is a common mod and easy. Doesnt really do much as peak power is before the rev cutout anyway.. but extra is good if you put on new carbies / exhaust / cam or something..

post some pics in the "Members Rides" section of the forum please :) and make sure the bike is cleaned prior to taking photos :)
