Just in case you need any, Lidl (pronounced "Leedle"

) are doing a ski-wear special at the moment - I bought a couple of pairs of their snowboard socks and they're bloody ace for biking in this freezing weather (yeah - I know the Aussies don't care about this kind of thing

)

Anyway, getting back to being @nal about socks - knee length, padded sole and shin/calf and thermal too!

ive never seen snow before.

but ive lived thru a 47degC heat wave..

i actually had to take my jumper off (sweater / sweat shirt)... damn 40+ weather..

It was -2Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ÂºC when I took my daughter to dance class this morning - took ages to clear the car off!

Going to try and take my daughter somewhere with real snow early next year if I can - we only get a tiny bit here and it never lasts. Then again - I'd rather be warm and in Oz

We're taking our family holiday next week - 7 days in Lapland, hence the snow gear... should be a bit of a giggle if a tad chilly!

Not MY choice I hasten to add - my preference would be somewhere warm, remote with my KTM and a tent...

It does get cold here too in Oz - couple of years ago took my (then 9 yr old) daughter to play netball at Woodside (in the Adelaide Hills).

Game started at 8:30am; temperature -3.5C. By the time they finished it had soared to -0.5C.

I was bloody frozen by the time she finished! (She's always been selfish - only thinks of herself!)

I've been racing in a mountain bike event in Canberra. A 24hr race and at 4am it was down to -8.0C. Froze the drink in my water bottle and felt like my toes had fallen off. I don't think anyone who went to that one will ever forget it.

I went to watch the RallyCross at Brands Hatch one year in December - they always used to have the final round there. I was with a workmate who I (obviously) didn't know all that well. It was pretty cold and the ground was frozen (fairly normal at that time of year.

Anyway the next day he said to me
"the only part of me that got cold yesterday was my foot",
to which I replied "your foot? Why have you only got one?"
"yes " was his reply.

I didn't know what to say. It was one of those foot in mouth moments. Turns out he'd lost his leg in a bike accident some years previously, and I just didn't know.
