Valve identification
I seem to recall a post somewhere about later inlet valves having a different marking on them. Anyone know or did I dream it?
Does anyone know which engine number the later inlet valves were introduced on? I know it's supposed to be 1997, but I've got a cylinder head that I can't date, although I know the engine number it came from.

hold your horses...Quan-Time wrote:the 3 inlet valves are smaller, and identical to eachother.
the 2 exhaust valves are larger and identical to eachother.
if you measure them, you can tell them apart easily as the inlet are smaller than the exhaust.
IIRC, the middle inlet valve actually differs from the two other, probably a different length due to the different valvestem angles. And I believe that they also are marked differently, maybe that's what You are thinking of Youngy?
Not that it helps in identifying the valves though...

Re: Valve identification
Maybe Yamahas part number will help!? Then you could ask your dealer.
Here are the -97:
-97 Vaves
Noticeable though....-96 got the same part numbers....
...perhaps i did not get the question at all!

Re: Valve identification
Yes but the fact that Yamaha list the same part number for replacement parts for the different year doesn't mean that the original parts fitted to the two years were not different. if you see what i mean. If the original valves fitted to the 96 bikes were substandard then it's reasonable to expect the replacement to be the new spec.Killerwhale wrote:Maybe Yamahas part number will help!?
