Need to know how to connect the Carbie, help

Post by jake » Mon Jan 07, 2008 4:44 am

I received a TRX850 but the carbie was taken off, now there are quite a few hoses and i have no idea what goes where or how to connect it. The manual i have is not that great. Would anyone have any pictures or diagrams or anyway how to help me it would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Jake, firstly welcome to the site. You can download a manual from this site in the downloads section. Could be a lot better than what you have at the moment. I had a set of carbs off on the weekend so my memory of the hoses is still quite fresh.
There will be 2 rubber coolant hoses that will connect to the rear underside of the carbs. 2 hard plastic drain hoses that connect to the exposed rear of the carbs. The larger rubber fuel hose connects to the fitting between the carbs. That should be all. The other hoses that are on the carbs themselves are vents and a couple of hoses connect to the fuel tank when its installed.
Hope this helps.

quick question, there are 3 hoses comming off the fuel pump, where do they go, theres one short, one fat long one (im assuming this is the fuel to the carburettor) and one long skinny one.

one goes to tank, one to carbs, and one to inlet stub on the vacuum connection

Thanks guys, last night i dripped a bit of fuel into the carbies and had the bike running for about 2 seconds. Thats very positive considering the rebuild and all that. I just have to sort out the hoses now.

Ok guys im still struggling, ive made progress but a few things still i need to work out, ive taken pictures to help you guys see the problems.

1. Where does this long pipe go ? its coming from the fuel pump.
Image

2. This little one im puzzled, where does it go, its too short for anything.
Image

3. These two skinny ones are from the back of not the carbie but the rings and connector to the blow below it.
Image

4. Now is this the right one that goes to the carbie ? it seems to fit great, but it also fits great on the fuel tank.
Image

5. I think ive got this one figured out, top to the radiator, bottom to no where ? right
Image

6. The fuel tank, one hose from it, seems to go no where, the other hole goes to the fuel pump ?

1. Vacuum connection at one of the inlet stubs.

2. Fuel tank.

3. Coolant pipes for carb heating?

4. Drain line. Do not connect to anything.

5. Correct.

6. Long hose on bottom of tank goes down back of motor and isa drain. 2 otehr connections on fuel tap. Big one is fuel to pump. Small one is vacuum from one inlet stub.

Thanks martin, here are all my replys, sorry for being a pain, but i didnt take it apart so im having troubles with it, otherwise i would have labeled it all.

1. Which inlet stub ?

2. is it too short, seems that way, if i connect it, i wouldnt be able to lift up the tank.

3. Ive connected the coolant pipes, one on each end of the pipes with the thermostat.

4. Wont touch that.

5. Done

6. When looking at the carbies from the front there are two little holes, does one go to the hose mentioned in picture 1, and the other to the fuel tap ?

Cheers

1. Either inlet stub, between the carbs and the head. They both have a brass connector sticking up. One vac hose goe to the tap, one to the pump.

2. It is correct. You cannot lift the tank with it connected.

6. Erm you lost me.

7. Look in the downlaods section of this site!!!!!

Ok, heres an update, the bike is running, and i took it for a spin, runs great, its got heaps of compression, and both cylinders seem to be running strong.
Thank you very much to Kev and Martin for helping me out. There are still a few things that need to be sorted out.

1. We didnt tighten the engine cover enough, so oil is leaking from there.

2. Some of the hoses still need to be worked out.

But all in all im very happy, its got a full stayintune exaust, the baffles have been taken out so its damn loud, i think my whole neighborhood hates me.

I really liked it, it doesent have as much power as my GSX-R600 2002 model, but the way it produces the power is fantastic. Pretty much the entire rev range has equal and even power. Very nice, i cant wait to take it for one of those all day rides where i come back sore.

Glad your getting it sorted Jake. I guess because you've got Staintunes fitted that you must be an Aussie. Whereabouts are you located ? You might have someone local who can shed some light on the stray hoses in person.
